£70 quid a pop for games?

Fucking hell.

Hence my desire to keep the second hand market alive.

I remember the days when people used to complain about paying £10 for a top end game!!

Plenty of top end games under a tenner.

I think most are £52 on Amazon right now? I’ve gone for the disc version as that allows for a) sharing games and b) taking advantage of discounts/the always ~£10 less RRP on Amazon vs. PlayStation Store.

It should pay for the £90 extra cost within a year or so I think

The digital stores are a rip-off for new games, well over normal retail games. I’d also much rather not buy from Amazon (easier than it sounds, I know).

Personally, I’m probably going to wait six months and get a bundle of something and a later production run. I’ve got a decent PC so can get by without a Series X, so PS5 will be the first thing I buy.

That price point is going to drive at best case, delayed purchases from many people and at worse case, a desire to exploit and pirate stuff.

Amazon will pick up the rest and will probably put everyone else out of business.

Cor, I’m not a gamer but boy don’t these games look realistic these days?!

More colours these days.

That game on the ZX Spectrum.

Wow! The life you gamers lead!!

I’m almost tempted to buy the ZXSpectrum my bro’ in law keeps trying to offload on me, cheap like…

Back in the day, us Commodore 64 owners just used to laugh at Daley Thompson’s Decathlon on the Spectrum because the main character, Daley Thompson, a hugely popular and famous black Olympic Champion, was rendered on the Spectrum, a limited machine, as a totally white sprite.

Here’s the C64 version.

I know, but I love how sophisticated games have come along since then.

Tbf #TeenageMutant dabbled in retro games but doesn’t get how freaked out we all were when we first saw Pog/tennis - whatever you want to call it.

Here’s a depressing truth about today’s video games.

Most are very similar. They look gorgeous, but the things oyu end up doing within them are very repetitive.

The only real differences between Tomb Raider, Far Cry, The Witcher, Call of Duty, Spider-Man and lots of other games are perspective, settting and emphasis.

Everything effectively runs on RPG mechanics these days.

I am still playing Halo Reach endlessly.

The games then seemed so much more exciting, they came out quickly and they were relevant.

I’ve been swimming in retro shit lately. I think we forget how good some of that stuff is. THPS1+2, and loads of stuff on the MiSTeR, which anyone interested in retro gaming should buy.

Defo PS5. I worked on two of the launch titles so need to see some units shifted to ride this storm out
