World Cup!

Just like the men’s team, the lady folk drag us in with the hype and they make us want them to achieve something against the odds.

Will they leave it until the final to crush our hopes or will we see a gutless Lampard paired with Gerrard style of semi-final debacle accompanied by a rallying cry of witless commentary telling us how unlucky our plucky gals have been?

I’d like them to just get on and win it - showing us that they are better prepared and committed than the men’s teams of the last fifty years.

Even if some of the quality of play wouldn’t be out of place in a pub game on a Sunday morning.

Indeed - not too dissimilar to some of the opinions of some male football ‘fans’ eh

What I liked about the whole build up, game and afterwards. The overjoyment of being in an England shirt, wanting to be there representing their country and playing for each other. The effort that went into that game yesterday (early hours of this morning) was fantastic.

The team spirit and togetherness, that is missing from the ‘men’s’ national side.

Also when Canada went 2-0 down, the whole team got together in the penalty area and had a quick huddle/team talk. They were not swearing at or blaming each other, just talking about, what they were going to to put things right, or geeing each other up.

It was a great watch!

Just wait til the women are on £250k a week for their clubs. They won’t give a shit about this amateur stuff then.

It’s the same with athletics. When you hear interviews after an event, they are really open and buzzing about their success. Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis…whoever. The only time I’ve felt this in men’s football was Rickie Lambert after scoring against Scotland. The rest of the time, they are so cagey. I don’t know if that’s because they are over trained in ‘media management’ or just because they are defensive because of the criticism they know they will get. But none the less, it makes men’s international football very souless and a bit depressing.

Hey Rallyboy! I’m feeling your post…sounds like your into it as much as I am. But I don’t understand why necessary to make the last comment. What I’ve watched so far of the tournament is much more beautiful and skilful than the ugly game played on a Sunday morning. Why not just enjoy it for what it is, rather than make negative comparisons?

x

I watched the highlights! I thought it was better than Sunday Pub standard! (See, positive comparison! That is how you do it, RB!)

That said, if they had a bro in goal, it would’ve finished 0-0. Or to put it in a more positive comparison, if they had a blind dwarf in goal, it would’ve finished 3-2.

I’ve watching Sunday Pub football. I’ve watched non league football. It is UGLY.

If you want to cherry pick what bits you like and what you don’t…so be it, but you’re losing out on the fun of the sport, and the tide of women’s football.

They had 50k+ in the stadium. In the UK they had 1.5 million watching even though the game started at midnight. If you want to carry on pretending this isn’t worth taking seriously, and the “that said…” then you carry on living in the past…

It’s got a long way to go, Lou. That’s all I’m saying. I bought the Sun this morning, and guess how many pictures I saw of the Husbands and Boyfriends of the England players? How many pictures of them was there, in revealing clothes, shopping in Montreal high street or whatever? How many comments on their appearance and fashion choices and hair cuts? How much speculation was there bout if the Husbands & Boyfriends are getting fucked pre-match or if the players have to Abstain?

None, Lou. None.

Watched the game…Well done England

Great team spirit

Striker Taylor…very well played.

Onwards and upwards…hopefully they can beat Japan.

Give them time… most of them have responsible day jobs! There’s no time for the drug parties, what with the day jobs + international football + keeping a husband and home in order. Women always have it tougher!

I Did Not Know Bout That! I srsly thought the women game was professional now! I didn’t know they still had day jobs like i.e. sunday pub bros. That changes everything + I will make allowances + be less judgemental.

I referee Sunday league football and they think they have the right to question any mistakes I make. I find it hard to keep a straight face at times, with some of the poor play I see.

One thing about this World Cup, I will admit, is the standard of goalkeeping has never been great and the amount of foul throws drives me insane!

Overall really enjoying the tournament.

Who says we have to wait until 2022 to win the World Cup!!!

The GKer thing is weird. You wouldn’t think that ppl should be less good at GKing, just cos they’re female, i.e. it’s not really bout strength & speed etc. I spose it’s like at school, when you just shove the shittest kid in goal.

Perhaps the coaching is still not there, like it is for male goalkeepers from a younger age. Saying that, it is the same in all positions surely?
