This is probably the key bit of the post I need to respond to in full.
I agree with some of it, but the notion that my posts have more influence is something I can’t get on board with. The evidence doesn’t support it, for starters. There are shitloads of people who’ve got a higher points to post ratio than I, and that is despite me attracting upvotes that few of you can, such as when people upvote me for developing new functionality.
As I said, I can see how people can develop that perception, which is precisely why I wanted to lance it. From my perspective, my content is the least important stuff on this site (insert obvious joke here). If all I wanted to do was read me I’d have started another blog, not a forum.
To me, Sotonians is not me. It’s all of you. I want to be able to post like anyone else here, and I’m already taking on board what you’ve mentioned. If you think we’re doing full disclosure on here, you’re mistaken. There are matters we’ve kept pretty close to our chest for the benefit of both the site and the posters involved. We only do full disclosure when reputations are being impugned with obvious falsehoods, and we’re in a position to prove otherwise.
I’m not going to pretend there haven’t been situations that with the benefit of hindsight, I’d have done differently in my seldom used mod capacity, but that has fed into future decisions, so not all is lost. Many of the things you say I need to do I’m already doing; take a look at the cunt I was on SaintsWeb for comparison.
In the main though, and this is the bit that @tokyo-saint doesn’t get, respect begets respect and shite begets shite. Those are very much council estate rules, and while I won’t tiptoe onto Toke’s path of implied angry Scottish violence, people shouldn’t be surprised if they get the equivalent of a forum right hook in return when throwing the first punch.
Thing is, most of you knew this upfront. I am getting a little tired of apologising for being me because people are equating me with Sotonians. We are not the same thing; any assumption on either side to the contrary just complicates shit.
