Where's Rallyboy?

If I didn’t post on here I would have to spend more time on Facebook talking with real people

Fuck that for a lark.

And there lies the problem, Mr Papster. As soon as you set this site up, your relationship with us changed. You have the power (perceived or actual) in ways none of us have. You can ‘guest’ someone because you didn’t like them taking piss. If you can’t see how that changes your relationship with us, then your missing a big part of this!

When you say stuff, as the owner of this forum, it has more importance/influence than say Chertsey (just an example, Cherts!) That means you need to behave more sensitively in the things you do. Not that you can’t still have meaty debates or have fun, but you do need to be more responsible, not go on the attack quite so quick, not reinterpret what people say in your own words, not repeat things that were said in private. All that sort of stuff.

I’m not saying this to have a go, btw, I’m saying it because I just don’t think you’re seeing this from the other perspective - and I want to be honest enough with you to give you that perspective.

One other thing - I never said I wasn’t on this site anymore. When I was out of the country for two months I said I was taking a break for obvious reasons. When I came back, I popped in every now and then to say hello, and explained I’ve got stuff on but I’m still reading the forum. I’ve always engaged with the forum, just not so often as before. I can’t understand why that would be a problem. That it would be a problem makes me feel a bit claustrophobic, like I need a new boyfriend! :lou_lol:

Anyway, hope there’s something in here that is in some way useful and doesn’t cause offense.

Sorry @coxford_lou

I’m sure you’re very talented at what you do, but I reckon I’m probably World Champion at knowing the feelings and thoughts inside my head.

Sorry pap, I seem to have missed the part of Lou’s post where she claims to know your thoughts and feelings better than you do.

I said in my post that I certainly don’t feel like, or think like, the authoritative voice of Sotonians.

Her point disputes that idea. Maybe @redjoane can just about claim to knowing me better than I know myself, but she’d be the only person.

Don’t see that at all myself. To me Lou’s post was from her perspective and I certainly didn’t read it as telling you how you feel or think. I guess we’ll have to agree to differ on that then.

all women claim that power.

Are you going to put that in the dishwasher?

Yes! I was just about to!

No you weren’t.

Sound familiar? The annoying thing is how often they’re Right :lou_angry:

The top of my original post was clipped out of @coxford_lou 's reply.

The whole point of that post was to make it clear that whatever other people perceived, I don’t see it that way.

I miss Bletch. Right now he would have an unfunny play on words to break the tension and take the topic away from is it Pap who is right or is it the rest of the world. Come back bletch.

OK I don’t get involved in these “hot topics” or “contentious debates”…I’m retired, I like most people and I’m not confrontational. I have been in the past but not to any great degree because when you work as part of an office team, it’s important you all get along together. That means you don’t always pick-up the ball and run with it…sometimes you just tap it back and smile.

I think what would help you Pap is to consider this forum your “bread and butter”; treat it as if it were your only source of income. Even if you don’t want people to consider you as anything other than just another forum member…they will…they know who you are and right or wrong they expect something more from you. Not necessarily more than you’re giving now but less in the way of “muckin in with the kids”

Sadly if you run a forum you can’t do both, there has to be an element of self-moderation.

I think most people understand and appreciate your post Pap. I was trying to explain what it’s like being in our shoes, regardless of your best intentions. But clearly not the time or moment for that to be heard. Never mind.

Nah, anything about dishwashers, I’m always wrong on. I’m a lazy arse when it comes to dishwashers.

Bletch hasn’t gone! He’s just busy at work!

I was already aware of external perceptions, or at least likely ones. I wrote the post in order to correct them, so having the exact opposite thing that I wanted perpetuated regardless was a little tiresome, yes.

Apologies, don’t have time to respond fully at present.

I think the man has clearly established that is the same thing Lou.

@pap agree to differ?!! :lou_lol:

Have you taken leave of your senses, @fowllyd ?

On SWF’s long-running @pap v Chapel End Charlie 'Did Man Land On The Moon’ debate, I recall @pap telling me that he was “thread committed”. I wasn’t sure what that meant at the time, but I’ve long since developed the suspicion that it means something like “whatever it takes, and no matter how long it takes, I’m gonna have the last fucking word on this”.

@pap and @saintbletch did you ever get anywhere in reaching out for another mod?

I knew you motted the idea a while ago and I was just wondering if that might “ease” the pressure a little.

And NO I am not volunteering, thanks…

We did. We haven’t implemented it yet. We probably should, if, after all the nonsense mods have had to deal with since December, said person is still interested.

Not sure this is a job for amateurs tbh, no offence. We should put in a bid for chalet. If the arabs can get clattenborg, we can get chalet. AFAIK he works for curry, so we’d prob only have to chuck in an extra onion bhaji, or something like that, to seal the deal.
