If they cave in it just encourages more twatish behaviour from others down the line. He signed a long contract. Now make him see out at least one more season. What do you do? Force him to play? It makes sense to say you are staying, so spend some time out to get your head around it and come back when you are sorted.
Also how can he kick off about wanting to leave if Liverpool haven’t made an offer?
It is obvious that the procession of ex Liverpool players urging him to go on strike to force a move has worked.
It’s just a continuation of the tapping up that Liverpool have been doing all year.

Let him rot for 12 months and miss out on the chance of playing in the world cup (assuming the Dutch qualify). His value wont change significantly, so at the end of the day we lose out on 5-10 mil in wages. Peanuts in this age of ridiculous money.

I’m not so sure. MP made a point of saying the club(board) were not going to sell this window. It has a distinct Morgan feel about it.
Anyway, being bullied by Liverpool at this point, would be a disaster for our progression as a club.
If he has to go, make it abroad, or a club in the real rich league(which Liverpool are not). I would happily drop his value back down to £50m for anyone but them. Missing out on Virgil and the Red Bull player puts Liverpool back fighting for places with us and that alone is worth any amount.

Its the crappy dilemma… the grim truth that money and ‘club’ size is all that matters and players are desperate to find a short cut to success rather than building something with a club… its the reality of modern football, always a bigger fish… I think we get more fucked off though than is grown up, because of the arrogant fucknumpties at those ‘bigger’ clubs giving it large in their patronizing twatish manner based on some fuckwit sense of entitlement.
We lament a bygone age where players never kissed some badge in a fake show of mock love, but were really invested in a club’s success as much as the fans are… I dont expect loyalty anymore… and clubs will offer long term contracts precisely to ensure they get more value when these things happen, but it is still a shame that we have a sport in which there is a glass ceiling - that graft, hard work and smart investment wont lead to success, just players going sooner… … even sadder that the fans have no real choice but to accept it… its all a bit shit really.

If we basically tell the world that tapping up our players is absolutely fine, will work and will get you to the front of the queue then we deserve everything we fucking get.
He’s a cunting great player, so let’s sell him to City, Chelsea or whoever for £50-60Mn and let Liverpool have the pleasure of playing against him.

It’s not a great business idea, but how about we call his bluff and drop him until his attitude improves?
By Christmas he’ll be the Lord Lucan of the Premier League and his agent will see a World Cup passing his client by, so he’ll have no option but a fucking U-turn.
It’ll cost us a couple of million in wages, though we could fine him every week he refuses to play?
Either way we draw a line and fire a warning shot at the next smug bastard who wants to take the piss.

At this point I worry about another player having a toxic influence in the dressing room. My vote would be ship him out on loan with some sort of deal to lower/relieve our share of the salary burden. Preferably this would be to a team outside of the prem (one of the big European clubs). Option to buy at the end of the season so 'pool don’t get a chance to have a look-in.
Or put him in a box and slap Siberia on the address label.
