Yep, I would imagine that the contract contains a clause that says in the event of the player agreeing to join another team then all of the club’s obligations under the contract (including his weekly wage) would cease with the exception of the payment of a ‘loyalty bonus’.

I know we could of course still sell a player in August, but it _appears _to be club policy that if a player is going to be sold it is done before August so that the club has a good amount of time to find replacements.

I really hope that the club call Van Dijk’s bluff and stand firm. We know that he is going at some point so I would get a decent replacement in now and just treat the twat as a squad player for a season. Two fingers up to Liverpool and two fingers up to player power.

If that were the case I don’t know how The Premier League could ignore all that has gone before in this transfer window. It would totally undermine everything in the transfer rule book…totally shot to pieces.
They can’t wash their hands of what would have brought about the transfer even if the parties involved didn’t want to persue the infrigements.

If this is true I think we can expect a lengthy update from Jack Schitt as the club will want to put out some positive PR after what will be a hugely unpopular turn of events.
As previously stated above by @lifeintheslowlane this will make an absolute mockery of so many things.
