đŸ‡ș🇩 The War/Invasion in/of Ukraine

Why are there people still trying to justify what Russia are doing? Yes, the West is to blame for pushing Putin, but that doesn’t justify the way the invasion has taken place.

It’s like the battered wife thing - “well she provoked me.” Doesn’t justify the reaction.

Exactly, one hell of a lot of victim blaming going on here, what many I think don’t want to admit is they’re playing the old my enemies enemy is my friend routine, they don’t particularly like Russia but they hate the west more so they’re looking to blame the west actions over Russia.
The same can be said for the Palestine and Yemen situations, they don’t actually like them per se (just look at their politics and human rights) they just like them a bit more than the west.
They’ll never admit it though but its sticks out, everything is turned against the west, everything, yet they never move out of the west. That’s the price of freedom of speech I suppose.

I don’t even think it’s that, I think to a certain degree it’s a case of just being contrary for contraries sake.

Who are “they” Barry?

People Cobham, people.

That’s alright then because your previous post read like a slagging off of posters on here. Clearly a misreading on my part, right?

A Russian newspaper published that they have had 10k KIA and 14k wounded. It was said that the source was the defence ministry. The article has subsequently been removed but not before it got screen grabbed by several journalist

Live reporting 20:17

“ We reported earlier that our colleagues at BBC Russian had compiled a list of 557 confirmed Russian military deaths in the Ukraine invasion, mentioning that Russia’s defence ministry has so far only once provided fatality figures - 498 deaths as of 2 March.

All that suddenly changed in the last few hours, or so it seemed

The staunchly pro-Kremlin newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda (KP) published an article quoting the ministry as saying 9,861 Russian servicemen had died, a figure which exceeds even US intelligence estimates of Russian fatalities.

It gave the number of wounded as 16,153.

Minutes later, this part of the article disappeared from the page, but we were able to take screen grabs of the relevant paragraphs.

KP editor Vladimir Sungorkin subsequently told the BBC the information had been the result of a hack, and said the paper will post an explanation later.”

You’ll go a long way through these posts to find anyone saying Russia couldn’t win this if that is what you want to call it invasion of Ukraine, its the cost, the cost will be so big Pap its quite frankly even now unimaginable, no one really knows but I’ve said and I’ll say it again Ukraine will not bow and the deaths the Russians will suffer will hurt them for years, they’ll be begging for immigration then.
Cossacks be gone.

Cost is relative.

Relative to what has been paid before and relevant to what you think you’re buying.

Close to thirty million people were killed in what the Russians call the Great Patriotic War.

I think you could multiply those casualty figures by some factor and the cost would still be worth it to Putin. He doesn’t have to pay it, after all.

World War II you mean, didn’t they the Soviets sign up with the Nazis? They don’t like that bit of history.

They signed a non-aggression pact, yes.

But then, the West was happily trading with Nazi Germany pre-war even though it knew that it was extreme.

Port of Southampton used to feature a Nazi flag among a list of other national flags in the 1930s.

History records that many Ukrainians were enthusiastic Nazis and helped persecute the minorities. Oddly enough, there are militias around Mariupol that are very proud of that.

Go stick some more Marmite and toast in the video.

And of course our Royal Family, but probably best not go there. The Queen Mother referring to “That nice Mr Hitler” , virtually the whole of the British establishment were very enthusiastic about him and lobbied furiously to side with him rather than go to war with him.

Yes, sign a deal with Nazis, carve Poland up and kill 15 million of your own. Didn’t Stalin say or was reported to have said
“Quantity has a quality of its own”
History does show many Ukrainians were enthusiastic Nazis as were the Dutch and French, having 4 million of your countrymen starved to death a few years before does give it some context.

And what were Poland doing in 1923?

That is wholly untrue, many in the British establishment were against Hitler, (Hore-Bellisha, Churchill, Stewart-Murray) and it wasn’t that Britain was for him it was the cost it would take to stop him and Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement strengthened Hitlers hand (some see it as it bought the allies time but thats bollocks).

I don’t know Pap, what were the Polish doing in 1923?
