đŸ‡ș🇩 The War/Invasion in/of Ukraine

I haven’t wished for anything.

If Putin decides to go into NATO he’ll literally be signing his own death warrant.
Russia military appears to be that weak it wouldn’t try, its been humiliated and forced to indiscriminately bomb civilian targets to force change, its failed massively.
NATO could dismantle Russia’s airpower and navy very quickly but what then? Putin would go nuclear so no no one wants that.
Putin needs to be given a way of standing down and living under a stone, or hopefully an ice pick moment from within.

Yeah, I just wonder if NATO members have teeth when they’re bombing the shite out of a non-nuclear armed foe with obsolete military equipment, but will lack them when confronted with this.

What NATO commanders might see as effective strategic encirclement is also a number of potential powder kegs waiting to go off, especially after seeing that Putin is willing to use his military.

The lack of self awareness in this sentence is comedy gold, irony at peak.

I see Ukraine encircled, I see Russian bombing children’s hospitals, I don’t see Russia encircled, in fact its not encircled at all.

If you’re not going to address the points made, which were not unreasonable, then don’t bother posting.

Pap,

Russia isn’t encircled and its a red herring, why?

Because a missiles can be launched from anywhere, why would NATO invade Russia?

This isn’t about NATO, this is about Putin, legacy and the Soviet Union.

Ukraine was and is miles off joining NATO anyway, and if it wanted to join why shouldn’t it? Because it may piss of their neighbour?

That’s not the issue I was raising. If Putin decides to chance his arm invading a NATO country, other members are obliged by treaty to help them.

And then one of two things happens.

  1. We stand by our obligations and likely have World War 3.
  2. We don’t stand by our obligations and set the stage for World War 3.

Neither outcome is good, and neither outcome would occur had NATO not got so many new members, with Russian minorities, right on Russia’s doorstep.

This and its not good but that is Putin’s decision, I sincerely hope he doesn’t do that.
NATO wouldn’t back down as it would be worthless.

Neither outcome is good, and neither outcome would occur had NATO not got so many new members, with Russian minorities, right on Russia’s doorstep.

Those members joined right away or as soon as they could, why?

They certainly don’t yearn for the Soviet Union and they’re happy in the west under the protection of NATO, the World changes, the British Empire has gone, so has the Soviet one.
Why do you think the Ukrainians are resisting so heavily?
There is your answer, and there’ll be an equal response in every nation Russia invades, they don’t want Putin and they don’t want Russia, only Belarus do and only because the civilian population has been brutally put down by Lukashenko.

The answer you’re looking for (you won’t like it nor will you probably accept it) is the level of Ukrainian resistance shows you how much they don’t want Putin, nevermind NATO or the EU, they don’t want Putin.

Putin may feel, with some justification, that NATO is a paper tiger.

It kind of looks like one now. Member have been pushing like fuck to get Ukraine into the club, but handily enough, they’re not treaty-bound to put boots on the ground.

Where has NATO been pushing for Ukraine to join?

I said NATO members. The US has been pushing hard for decades, harder since 2014.

The US is one nation in NATO, whether it has or hasn’t we’ll never be privy to know but that doesn’t bother me nor should it bother you, what is key is the decision making of whether they’re allowed to join, they shouldn’t be pushed aside as they’re an apparent victim of geography.
