HART HEADING TO BURNLEY?
The Sun are reporting that Joe Hart is on his way to Burnley for a medical.
Apparently he is going to join the Clarets from Manchester City in a £4m deal.
It would be an interesting move considering Burnley already have two England goalkeepers in Tom Heaton and Nick Pope, although both are currently out injured.

Well I’m pinning all of my hopes on Armstrong making any of the goal-shy funsters ahead of him into golden boot contenders.

“Fraser is looking at options really,” admitted Hughes.
“I had a conversation with him earlier in the season and said from his point of view he needs to get back playing and he agrees with that.
“We are looking at options and seeing if we could get him to a place that he would feel is appropriate for his talents.
“We haven’t been able to manage that so we will have to play that by ear.”
Sounds like a League 2 club has come in with a cheeky loan offer involving the use of the club car and waiving his subs fee.

I’ve been saying this since the beginning of the summer. The point being, both of the players mentioned can be utilised through the middle as well as out wide.

Agree about the need for pace up front (well, pace with an end product I suppose) but as I’ve said elsewhere the cuteness of Armstrong and playing centrally through their opposition, as I’ve seen a few times in preseason, give me some hope of scoring more goals. But you can’t rely on every team letting us do that. You need pace as an option too.
I’ve been comfortably thinking that we’ve done some good and early business this summer. But looking at what other clubs have done makes me wonder if we’ve really been that active (in and out). I recognise that it’s not about quantity of signings, it’s about singing what WE need, but some of our rivals have been as active and possibly more so.

Looking at those there’s no names that smack me in the face, but then I could say the same about the players we’ve signed.
Maybe Deulofeu would pique my interest but I always thought his move to Barcelona was a strange one…
Pace also allows you to play counter attacking football, particularly against the top teams who retain the majority of possession. I genuinely cannot remember the last time we beat one of the top 6 (in the league). I don’t think Puel managed it did he? Pellegrino certainly didn’t so we are talking back to Koeman’s last season.
I agree that Armstrong looks to be good addition through the middle, and will probably grab himself a few goals arriving late in to the box.
But having direct pace gives you so many more options and has an impact on the opposition and how high up the pitch they press etc.
All I’m saying is that there appears to be a gaping hole in our squad for a player of those characteristics, regardless of the system we will be playing.
I can only arrive at the conclusion that we are being priced out of any players of that type who will actually improve us. Which evokes some feelings of melancholy over the start of the season.

Yeah, good question vagstar, I honestly don’t know.
But I thought it interesting that even though we finished below these clubs and were fourth bottom, it could be interpreted that they’ve all determined they needed to fix more things than we do.
Perhaps our finishing position was a blip? Perhaps 4 in will fix the problems? Perhaps we’ll get another few in before the 9th?
As we’d changed managers and this is his first window I’d have thought Hughes would’ve wanted to change more.
