Despite several reports linking him with a move to Southampton this summer, Andrea Petagna has joined SPAL on a season-long loan.

Really? First I’d heard of him… Despite the article linking to its own report…

Ah, that would explain it, it was a (dodgy) @Polski_Filip post not a (reliable) @Simon-says one.

Yeah, no idea if there was any truth in the rumour but just wanted to close the circle as I’d read the name on here.

I have a sneaky feeling that Vestergaard will be getting the number 4 shirt once this eventually goes through. Doubt there has been too many Saints fans getting ‘Clasie 4’ on the back of their new shirts, that the club would have to reimburse.

If he is going to leave, I’d rather it was permanent. It hasn’t worked out for him here but I think there’s a great player in there somewhere.

I agree on both counts. But I guess he hasn’t really done it over the last two years, plus there are question marks over his attitude. So a loan was probably all we could do. If he impresses then he will still have two years left on his contract so we may be in a position to recoup most of the £16m we paid for.

I think you’re both looking at it from a negative point. If his undoubted talent works to its potential in Spain, it won’t be a case of recouping money, it’ll be a potential massive profit.
You know how the club works, so with that in mind i’d say it’s a shrewd move from the club.
I’m getting a positive feeling about all the transfer business during this window, with Elyounoussi being the most impressive bit of business by far in my opinion.
Happy Times might just be back🤞
