🦇 The sci-fi, fantasy and capeshit thread

On another note, Gen V is the other thing I’ve been watching, and like Peacemaker S2, has a very big mystery that you’ll probably spot a mile off.

Been thinking of you while watching S2 of Sandman

A show that got us all excited back in 2022 and which Tom Sturridge nailed the lead role.

Must have been galling for the cast, crew & Netflix that Neil Gaiman cancelled himself and left them with a Turkey.

S2 wanders inanely at times, but at others it has real depth and possibilities in the stories we will never now see

It’s especially creepy because the actor playing Sandman looks like a younger version of Gaiman.

I do like a few of Gaimain’s books, but most ot them follow the exact same track. Sandman is actually the stand-out in that it’s not about a normal person going to a fantasy world and eventually conquering his new world (for it almost always a he).

I’ve just seen the conclusion of Gen V. Fuck me, did it stick the landing, something quite a few other shows this year have been said to have fluffed.

I don’t necessarily agree, but no one can have any complaints.

It looked to me as though Starlight has landed on her face.

Quite enjoyed Gen V apart from the last 30 seconds. Cringe.

I have 8 episodes of Space 1999 to go

So I started the soft porn of UFO.
Reviews to come but UFO - damn chain smoking & drinking in the office

Apple +.
Invasion
From day one this was different. SciFi but character centric.
Real time but around the world.
It was never an OMG watch this show, it was a true slow burner
It’s strength was thst it really didn’t fit a stereotype.

It has stayed stubbornly in the Top 5 Apple Streams, I was really surprised and very pleased S1 got renewed to a S2 then an S3.

Yeah it wandered a bit but it pulled itself together.

It’s ended very well.
An ending or a S4, done well.

Great cast, great score, tense scenes were tense.

A good watch. Now we wait for the suits

One of the joys of UFO & Space 1999 is guessing/recognising guest stars - and there are lots - even David Prowse getting early practice wearing monster suits in 1999.

This was a head scratcher from UFO

George Sewell was in UFO gritty British hard man wafting around chain smoking being non woke towards ladies and generally looking like he would die of Cancer
Space 1999 had some great names Joan Collins, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing,

Ian McShane, Billie Whitelaw Patrick Troughton,

Brian Blessed,

Pamela Stephenson
The David Prowse monster was what you should force Grandkids to watch to make them understand why we are so fucked up

UFO

I think the Gen V rebels will let om large in the final season of The Boys. The rebels bit was a bit cringe, but I liked the merger quio.

Did you clock the big twist ahead of time? They gave plenty of clues

I didn’t clock the twist. I did enjoy a whole troop of supes emerging from a comrades arse though.

Be woke aware, but realise 80/90% of your audience may not want it in their face and you have a chance.

‘Doctor Who’: Disney+ Pulling Out Of BBC Deal After Two Seasons

supes out the arse was far better than the usual Deus ex machina.

One of the things I really liked about this season was that everything was set up nicely. Didn’t feel cheated.

Tron Ares.
Yes this is much loved yadda yadda.
