šŸ¦‡ The sci-fi, fantasy and capeshit thread

For All Mankind continues to be superb. And has been renewed for S4.

I’ve read Trekkie tweets this week coinciding with Comic con demanding Alex Kurtzman is replaced by Seth McFarland.

The Orville just went legendary…
ā€œAlien Raceā€
We see her as leading the Revolution.

Who?

Why obviously…

Dolly Parton

Complete with a shrine & 9 to 5 being in the soundtrack.

What wonderfully marvellous SciFi times we live in.

Oh & ITK stuff, Foundation S2 is in filming - mates wife in UK keeps getting updates from the Kiwi star

Oh
And an Alien Jolene…

By The Gods!

SRSLY?

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
:heart::heart::heart:

Again.
The Orville goes head on into tough territory
Yes Dolly is wonderful but then it deals with Child abduction & torture.
It really is clever & thought provoking TV

I’m going to echo @Polski_Filip in my admiration for this new season of the Orville.

The storylines this season have been deep and well handled, not got up to the Dolly Parton episode but the others have been poignant and brilliant.

A Live Lived Twice was so thought provoking.

I noticed that John Favreau is a consultant on the series, is that the Mandalorian John Favreau?

Yes.
He directed the Pilot & is still consulting
Seth pulled together a helluva team including Brannon Braga from Trek

I had long thought that the space battle Vs the Dominion was the best SciFi TV until post Dolly The Orville.
Wow.
It has become must watch show

Not a must watch show, but certainly running The Expanse close for most innovative & engaging show, For All Mankind continues to deliver.
While we are kept on the edge of our seats by the ā€œSciFiā€ in S3 Ep8 we also get to deal with the superb development of the characters
From the doubts and lost love of the 1st Female (& Closet Lesbian POTUS in 1994) to a Foster Father /broken Sons relationship
It’s on Apple or use my dodgy link or DM for it.

Again. Superb Television
Fvck it.
Must watch Television

I remember a bunch of you slagging off wheel of time. I’ve been putting it off because of the reaction it got. Never read the books, and decided to take a look at the reviews before diving in. It’s got a huge proportion of 1star reviews. On further digging nearly every one star review is from people who’ve read the books and are pissed off that it’s nothing like the books. Despite all the one star reviews it’s got an overall score of 7.1. Decided to give it a go, and I think I’m right. It’s actually a good series. When considered in isolation from the books I think it stands toe to toe with Witcher and GOT. Sure there’s some annoying things about it (forced multiculturalism, strong woman feminism and some dodgy acting), but it didn’t get too cringey until episode 7 where there was a lull before the big season finale. Haven’t seen the finale yet, but I liked most of what I’ve seen. Hope it keeps going.

In fewer and less confrontational words:

That’s in your opinion of course

I tried to watch it and after 4 episodes gave up. I found it badly cast, acted and of course written.

But that’s in my own honest opinion of course.

Hardly worth an argument over opinions

  • hint this isn’t isn’t the Ukraine thread

I read the first 10 books a long time ago but I am not deeply attached to the story. They did not film the books, that’s OK by me. They did a decent job, I enjoyed watching it and will watch the next season.

I watched the season finale in the early hours of this morning. Was very disappointing. They tried to cram too much in to a single episode and all the key moments were diminished as a result. The younger actors struggle to carry the story when the focus is directly on them. Still, overall I’d say it was decent and will hopefully get better as the younger actors mature.

I watched it. I rated it as not shit
Which means watchable

It’s kind of like Westworld now. There is a story you want to finish but it could be so much better to get there but stuck with what they give us

Prey is a good Predator film.

While I found some of the choices a bit questionable (the Comanche having American-English accents was a bit disrespectful, I felt) it really works as a Predator film.

Set in the early 18th century, it’s about what happens when a Predator comes down for a hunting expedition. And oddly enough, doesn’t seem to matter what time period the Predators are in.

They’ve done this sort of thing before in the comics and it makes a lot of sense. Predator 2 establishes that the Predators have been coming to Earth for centuries.

It has the least issues of any Predator sequel. It doesn’t feel like a giant action movie remix like Predator 2 sometimes does, doesn’t flag with a Lawerence Fishburne moment like Predators and doesn’t insult your fucking intellgence from first minute to last like The Predator.

It’s a nice simple Predator story and because our protagonists have their own culture of hunting, they don’t even have to figure it out. There’s another hunter out there. It needs killing. That’s all there is to it, and I’m pretty sure they didn’t even know it was of alien origin.

Surprisingly decent.

@pap
You simply have no idea what lies in wait for you in Ep 10 of S3 of The Orville.
Unbelievable Jeff.
Vodka has been sprayed yet what a deep subject

A serious no spoiler review.
S3 of The Orville opened with a very clever mind bending take on Philip K Dick. It continued throughout to throw up thoughtful takes on many diverse subjects, Roe v Wade, Gay Sex as a norm, Gender Mutilation and and and. Yet all in a non Woke clever and often humourous way.
It built up to a Cliffhanging Season Finale…

Actually…

No.

Unlike so many shows it just went all in to yet another conceptual brain teaser. And boy did it deliver. In simple view mode it was Tat. In Orville view mode there were absolutely priceless one liners, while dealing with two incredibly complex story lines. The Prime Directive and…

Both handled superbly.

But tbh if Pap had a mind explosion with the visit to the Kaylon Homeworld episode…

Dude,

Brilliant. Completely wrong as a Season Finale and maybe the last ever episode but brilliant

Phil you twat.

Ffs

Oh, I’ll just have a look at that new people in the future show from Prime, Moonhaven I thought.

55 minutes of meh not Foundation or even Brave New World, different but not at their…

Oh wait.
Bugger

Unusual, original, a simplistic description of the feel would be Blade Runner (no Replicants just vibe) meets Brave New World meets IKEA.
I think.

Stick with the 1st 55 minutes or so and you should get an
Oh, hello moment

Meanwhile.
For All Mankind
S3 Ep9
:scream:
Did NOT see that ending coming.
Brilliant
