šŸ¦‡ The sci-fi, fantasy and capeshit thread

Hmmmm, for some strange reason I am enjoying it, not sure why but I am…

And Harold Ramis died in 2014 which explains a lot.

And by the finale I’m assuming you mean the end credits and Ray Parker Jr

Got up early this morning and have watched the penultimate (for now) episode of The Expanse. The calm before the storm - the most action we got to see here was a bunch of ships being railgunned to death. They didn’t linger on it.

Other than that, very much a tying up loose ends before the explosive finale (I hear they did most of their budget on the 1st and 6th episodes). There’s a lot of Chrisjen Avasarala in this episode, which is excellent, as she has consistently been one of the most engaging characters on the show.

Still a lot more loose ends to tie up and not all of them will be sorted by season’s end. There are three more books that follow this one - and some of the threads in this season really don’t play out until then. The bit on Laconia that they front-load with every week is from a novella which is hugely significant in later works. It’s not getting sorted now.

Don’t look up has become the 3rd most watched Netflix movie ever.
It is satire, it isn’t subtle and it IS brilliant

Hmmm, Selma Hayek I can deal with, Angelina Jolie I can deal with, even Kit Harrington I can deal with, but Harry Styles as the God of Love, fuck the right off right now…

I caught the last (for now) episode of The Expanse today and am left both satisfied and with a big feeling they blew most of the budget on this one. Clocking in at around an hour compared to the usual 43 minuter, this was a very good episode of The Expanse which ties up many threads, yet took the time to spin plates it did not need to, not if this was really the finale.

If you’ve not watched this show yet, you can do so in the full knowledge that it gets my full seal of approval, and I’ve read the entire book series. The adaptation was excellent, doing a good job of compositing characters and as a result, coming up with a character that was greater than the sum of the parts. I speak of course, of the legendary Drummer.

It’s a show that is particularly strong on female characters, particularly female leaders. Most of my favourite characters, book or TV series, are women. Thinking of ChrisJen Avasarala, Naomi Nagata and Bobbie Draper in particular. All incredibly tough, all vulnerable in their own way.

Great ā€œendingā€, still three more books of material to do if anyone else wants to pick up the production. My guess is that it would happen sooner rather than later, despite… the near 30 year time jump between books 6 and 7.

Didn’t read your post just settled down to watch!

But…have to agree with every word @pap

It did feel a bit like tying up every loose end, but very well done.

Did you notice at the end with the shot of the ring where things going through it went increasingly red - being destroyed, right?

Hope someone has the wisdom and money to revisit.

I think the production staff have been very cagey in their press, given that they’re all still working for Amazon, but that whole shit with Laconia has no business being there unless they fancy making the last three series.

They’re not building lawnmowers out there

Just been dragged to the cinema.

To see No Way Home.
Very enjoyable
Will no doubt have Omicron tomorrow but tbh was worth it.
Now for a decent curry

Spiderman no way home is a very enjoyable film.
Tom Holland has been for me better than his Sony predecessors as his juvenile naivety and enthusiasm is better and lead to more funny moments.
This film sees him need to grow up a bit.
That journey is well done.

The film has good humour, there were genuine moments when older members of the audience went oh wow, one actually clapped as Easter Eggs (no spoilers) are dropped.

It greatly improves on the depth of its villains from earlier incarnations and even previous Tom Holland films.

It really is worth all the hype. 7 year old Grandson & Spidey nut found he needed explanations but loved it even as he said " it had much less Spidey stuff than usual".

We stayed for both the post credits scenes. Worthwhile.

The cinema was about 80% full, wore a mask like everyone else but it takes a long time to munch through a medium bag of popcorn! So doubtless got Omicroned as Harlow seems to be the most infected place in UK these days.
Great more beers if I get not fit to fly on Wednesday!

Think we’ll have to agree to disagree on this, meandering, rambling film that served as a background filler for the coming MCU phase 4

Aye, good series over all, and good swerve at the end by our James.

Finally.
Time to say how absolutely brilliant The Expanse was.
Bravo

The Book of Bobba Fett Ep 5 is one of the best / most pure pieces of Star Wars TV for ages.

Probably because it has not got Bobba in it…

I did enjoy it but then I have enjoyed the last couple of episodes with Boba in, it’s not the best acted but it’s enjoyable.

Wasnt he in Brookside?

So based on the feedback here I tried ā€œThe Expanseā€ā€¦and I cannot hear it. Too much swooshy background music going on that smothers whatever anyone is saying.
