🦇 The sci-fi, fantasy and capeshit thread

DC will never avoid comparisons to Marvel, and vice versa. The best Justice League things on screen are the two animated series done by DC Animation Studios. Again, they cheat, creating a world to put those characters in.

First two seasons, simply titled Justice League, focuses on a few core characters, just like the Avengers. Justice League Unlimited just opens the pantheon right up, throws shit at you and it works. I’d recommend it if you’re down on DC and want to see something quality.

I’d rate it slightly higher, 7-8. It wasn’t Avengers, wasn’t trying to be. It’s got to be a four hour embarrassment for Joss Whedon.

Back in Sci-fi land I find myself watching an Anime show :scream:

Pacific Rim’s 2 movies are films I want to hate but can’t they earn my esteemed “they aren’t complete shit” rating. Enjoyable twaddle.

Netflix has now added Pacific Rim: The Black. There was no football on, I’m not ready to binge B5 so thought I’d see how shit it was.

1st warning, it involves kids. But had Kaiju & Jaegers (ah red bull memories). Anyway, I was surprised to find it wasn’t shit.

I’ve now binged 4 episodes and while it isn’t earth shattering, it is adding to the canon and adding “new stuff”. So I thought I’d check if it was Vodka.

Nope. Rotten Tomatoes likes it a lot as well 82% audience rating no less.

Hmm. May have to finish it and try that Titan thing later this week.

I binged this in one night the other week. Agree, it’s good despite the main characters being children. There is a really dumb bit at the end of the first episode where they kill all their friends for no good reason and then continue almost as if they didn’t, but once that’s out of the way it does a good job of fleshing out the universe the film’s hinted at.

Attack On Titan season 4 has been great. Think last episode is released this Sunday.

In the same vein as this, I’ve just binged another new Netflix animation Dota: Dragons blood, based on the computer game. It’s got elves (with pointy ears) and dragons, zombies, demons a goddess and a sage and loads of ridiculously shaped swords and a lot of blood. The main characters are not children. There are a couple of orgies (not graphic) and the characters say fuck and shit quite a bit. They say shit a few times in elvish but Netflix has been kind enough to subtitle in English. Overall it was enjoyable. The animation is pretty spectacular in places and the characters are all badass killer mofo’s. If you liked Castlevania and Blood of Zeus you will probably like this one as well. It’s pretty much the same formula.

Batman v Superman
Godzilla v Kong
Why?
I assume some spotty nerd goes oh cool, but they’re all heroes so just stop it.

Currently Konging. Look, it is a damned good film & with broadband instead of dial-up I’m sure it is REALLY visual.

Kong is treated with love, Godzilla is the bad guy. Oh stop it.
It made the story shallow when simply naming it Godzilla AND Kong would have been so much better.
Rant over.
Good watch

So glad I don’t live in Hong Kong.
Always getting flattened

Surprised to not see more love on here for the MCU 6 hour movie
I’m quite enjoying how it puts pieces together about the implications of The Blip and builds the characters.
Wanda was different and great this is just great Universe building with a good back story
And for once in MCU a subtle baddie

So that was a rather excellent episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. I really wasn’t expect to see that finale in an MCU gig, given the universe’s surprising lack of gore and claret. Decapitation America!

Also caught up with Invincible this week, which was fucking brutal. He’s asked to help out clear out a local crime boss. I’m not sure I’ve seen a more brutal scrap in a super-hero thing. It is not nice. But fuck, did it shock.
