šŸ¦‡ The sci-fi, fantasy and capeshit thread

It is good, and also almost like an old fashioned Western in its feel.
The plot twist of always wearing the helmet adds a level to it as well.
It is Entertainment of the highest order.
And the baby Yoda thingy is just a great idea after the JarJar Binks horror.

Lost in Space S2 drops Christmas Eve on Netflix

And what a return it is for The Expanse.

The aerial shots in S1 truly look like the pictures we see of some of the colours of Mars.

Very encouraging start

As Ep 2 of Expanse is on Spanish on my source, Ep6 of Mando is a pure minimalistic delight.
I’m still getting old Western vibes, perhaps the odd 60s reminiscent backing music.
Superb

In scifi news, seems CBS have already applied for tax credits for an S2 of Picard.
More when I get details, Tarantino said no to his R-rated Star Trek Kelvin movie, then backtracked

You lot kept quiet about War of The Worlds.
Not a bad effort by the Beeb.

For all Mankind.
Science Fiction. A re-imagining of the Apollo era IF the Russians had beaten the US to the Moon.
It is slow, almost soap opera level domestic drama, yet a very good story of how Nixon and NASA would have to react.
Hard due to the slow pace but enjoyable
6/10
Only watching as The Expanse on my ā€œproviderā€ has all the even episodes in bloody Spanish, odd ones in English

Lost in Space S2 is now on Netflix!!

Oh yes.
#rippingyarns

Gas Giant whales FTW

It burns slowly.
Then from the Whales.
Epic.

I watched S4 of The Expanse over Christmas. It’s very good. The book it is based on really doesn’t feature too much Earth, Mars or Belters. Apart from the first and last chapters, it’s all based on Terra Nova, home to the first human colonies outside the solar system.

The show, which clearly loves its characters, plucks bits from a novella and bits of the fifth book to ensure we still get that same planet spanning intrigue we know and love so much.

This is a good thing. I loves me my Bobbie Draper, one of the most badass characters in the show. I’m also a huge Chrisjen fan, although this season was mostly about suffering in solidarity. I understand why the book went the way it did; the move was designed to demonstrate the remoteness of the new frontier.

I’m glad the show took a different direction. A bit slower, but no less spectacular for being so, this season is mainly a primer for what comes next. I think @Goatboy knows how batshit it gets.

After a break for Xmas caught the last 2 Mandalorian Episodes.
Gutted I didn’t get a Jet Pack & Baby Foundling for Christmas

What a great show

The Witcher, superb, its dry, funny, gory and far more fantasy than GOT, this bedding in 1st season was great, Cavill would kick the shit out of any punter in GOT as well.

OK yes, The Witcher is massive globally. Overtaken Mandalorian in streams and here? Just huge.

Anyway, ages ago I read @pap reviews/comments on The Orville from a distance, no access to decent streams let alone time.
These past weeks had time #notouristsinjanuary.
I’ve had time to watch.
What clever stuff. Total homage to Trek feels Trekish yet unique and so many classic comedy moments.
Up to S1 Ep10 & glad that Hulu will run with a bigger budget S3.
Just wish I could find a stream with English version of The Expanse!

I know some of you are fans of Scandinavian shows.
Some are fans of Capeshit.
New on Netflix is Norwegian show Ragnarok.

Dubbed onto English claustrophobic small industrial town snowflakes pollution…

And could it be a non MCU take on Norse legend?
Gimpy geek weird brother, naled bloke jumping off cliffs & eating a Reindeer an accident or…
2 episodes in VERY encouraging
Not a cape in sight

5 episodes in to Ragnarok.
Its genteel pace would annoy many, the dubbing would annoy more.
But those who stay with it would be rewarded with a High School, Teenage Angst, getting laid, EcoĆ·Warrior, gender neutral,LGBT Snowflake Millenial splurge.
And those who get through that will see a Norse Myth, rebooted without Marvel, into a modern setting, with (oh that must be Jane Norman, and that HAS to be Loki) moment or 6 before you scream GET THE HAMMER BACK…
But then it gently reminds you, this is actually a new story, a new setting and I am wondering why the nerdy thick gimp already (ah sorry cant say, spoilers) 541 metres.
A good show.

Timeless. Netflix.
It is not brilliant. It is not Dr Who even.
But it is not shit
Basically massive conspiracy - let’s say The Elite and 2 time machines.
1 is trying to eradicate the Elite through history the other is trying to stop them.
Meh.
But then the edges blur, then there are interactions with historical figures so the net result is an entertaining show that we enjoy. A diverse cast & some intelligent eye candy, some paradoxes and plot holes for total nerds but just what is needed for a TV dinner or 3cdays sitting in a van.
Guess @Goatboy will enjoy it then

Netflix have slipped a long way behind on DC Comics series.
Left us only a lame Supergirl until I got bored & searched my ā€œproviderā€. Finally catching up on S5 of Flash which isn’t shit

Finally.
Dr Who. Jody’s 1st episode.
Excellent. Something to binge on at last

Don’t get too excited. New series has been garbage.

The last episode was better as we had cybermen but bring back some proper enemies and side kicks.
