❓ 👑 The Re-Markle-ble Interview

Well clearly anyone who knows a shred of European history will know that is not the case going back centuries. Mostly he is talking about the EU so I think it is safe to assume that this was a slip.

“America First!” “Britain for the British!”

Have you ever heard anyone say “Britain for the British”? He’s using an actual American slogan coined by Trump to validate an imaginary British slogan that he’s either imagined, invented or dredged up from some NF story thirty years ago. The entire piece is constructed that way. I can’t be arsed going through it all, but another choice assertion is that “It wanted to rule the world again.” Have you ever heard anyone in the UK suggest that? FFS.

Factually incorrect or not, he’s done a simple opinion piece and as I predicted has got some people frothing at the mouth.

I just took it for what it was - the worrying thing is the people outside of the UK may believe it. A bit like the shit we get dished up daily by the government and media / social media.

Not worth getting wound up by it tbh.

Yeah, but you can’t really blame the Europeans for our bankruptcy. We should never have entered the war in '39.

Poland wasn’t saved and we ended up giving our treasury to the Americans just to stay in it.

Funnily enough I have heard people say similar things. Let’s make Britain great again, that type of thing. I am more interested in the dumbing down of Britain which has been going on steadily for the last 30 years. I don’t agree with the assertion that we are the dumbest country, but we are a lot dumber than we used to be. There used to be a thing about raising the bar and educating people but now everything just seems to pander to the lowest denominator.

Basically, we should have folded early? :clubs::diamonds::heart::spades:

Nope. Stay out of it until people have kicked the shit out of each other enough so you can profit. Just like the Americans learned off us.

I did have to smile when I saw this on the news, some high quality gaslighting here. The two of them strolling slowly past the cameras proclaiming there is no racism in the RF, accompanied by two ‘aides’, who nobody has ever seen before. One of them a black woman who was probably dragged out of the back office this morning, and the other appears to be an Asian gentleman.
It is indisputable that Prince Philip has made many many racist comments in public. But of course these comments aren’t reported as racist by the UK media, they are ‘gaffes’, or the good old Duke speaking his mind, lightening the mood. Princess Margaret could be incredibly racist apparently, although she made exceptions for strapping young natives on Caribbean Islands. Allegedly! The Queen Mother was reportedly very racist. How is “You don’t look like you come from Manchester” not a racist comment? Charles said this to a black woman on camera.
They are a cold, detached from reality family. I remember those two little boys, who had just lost their mother in tragic and violent circumstances being made to walk behind her coffin through the streets of London in front of countless thousands. Disgusting. There is footage of the Queen, arriving back to a London station on the royal train after being away on a tour of the Commonwealth for several months. Charles, aged about six, was there on the platform waiting for her arrival along with all the flunkies, clutching his nanny’s hand, jumping up and down with excitement. The train arrived, she and his father alighted, and Charles broke free and ran to his mother who he hadn’t seen for about five months. And what did she do? She bent forward and shook his hand. Seriously!?
My personal opinion is that when the current queen goes then things should change, have a drastic reboot and do away with all the pomp and circumstance and all the privilege and bowing and scraping. Go down the Skandi and Dutch route, give them a nice little house, 50 grand a year and a bicycle. And before anyone screams"Tourism", The Palace of Versailles is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world, and the single most lucrative tourist site in France. If it was still used as a royal residence, as Buckingham Palace is, then the revenue would be significantly reduced. Of course income generated from visits to residences such as Buckingham Palace would vastly increase if, as many MPs have repeatedly requested, they were opened as year round attractions. However the royal family have consistently refused to do this. There is absolutely no credible evidence that the monarchy generates any profit whatsoever for the country, and that reports into the actual cost of the royals can only be estimated due to lack of information. It would seem that calls for more open scrutiny of the royal household’s accounts are perfectly reasonable, and not an ‘impertinence’ as is the current state of affairs.
As it stands now we have a Prince of Wales who by an accident of birth has been groomed from childhood to be King. Flunkies squeezing the toothpaste onto his brush for him, another one who lays his clothes out for him, who runs his bath every morning using a thermometer to get the water temperature exactly right. It’s Hans Christian Anderson nonsense and has no place in a so called modern democracy. It’s ludicrous, a 72 year old man, waiting for his mum to die so that he can get his first job. It’s like a plot from Open All Hours.

Sorry I have seen this trotted out time and again this week.
Bollocks. Utter Bollocks.
Nobody stays in Versailles. (apart from idiots at Golf Tournaments).
There is nothing there.Versailles does fuck all for the local economy apart from souvenir sellers and guides. It is a shit hole and at best has a couple of restaurants that you could claim as providing edible food.

Yes x zillion tourists are bussed (or trained) in and pay their entry fee. That is the contribution it makes to the economy of Versailles.

The Royal sites in London attract far lower ticket sales because access is restricted, but those tourists go to far more attractions (as they do in Pairs) but in Pairs they also go to the Musuems, the shopping, the restaurants AS they do in London

It is a bollocks comparison.

My thoughts exactly. Whilst the Queen has been a consummate professional public servant she and her husband have been appalling parents. It is little wonder that the family is so dysfunctional and that there have been so many divorces. If we are going to retain the monarchy they not only need to modernise, they need to become more human. To do that I totally agree that they should live more normal lives.

Just an alternative view to your frankly mental assessment- ffs :man_facepalming:

Not contributing to the economy if Versailles? …I humbly suggest most would be staying in Paris and contributing a fuck load there…

The Royal Family is a hideously outdated heap of shite. Accidents of birth rewarded with a privilege and wealth that humble tax payers have provided. They may well have put that tax payer dosh into some industry so that they also now have ‘other sources’ of income … but its all still rooted in the fleecing of the peasants in dim and distant past

As for industry… uhm, Yep I do believe they saw did a fair bit for our arms trade with Saudi…

its an archaic and frankly ridiculous notion to bow and curtsey to these people as if they are our betters… the ‘protocols’ that treat us as ‘servants’ and quite frankly anyone who still
supports this nonsense out of some misguided sense of ‘duty’ as the Mail likes to describe it and perpetuates the need for the pomp and ceremony and justifies the civil list has no credible argument

Sadly whilst the blue rinsers knit clothing for the ‘Royal babies’ and we get this utterly fuckwittery of national outpouring of tears and grief when one manages to peg it, I. ant see it changing…

When it comes to the Royals, we are a nation of arse-lickers

A consummate professional?

Please. She saw what happened to her uncle and decided that it was better to not rock the boat.

That’s not always a good thing. It also means staying silent when things are really shit.

Could also go in the thread about problematic behaviour towards women.

She does everything you want from a monarch. Opens things, stays out of politics, doesn’t rock the boat etc. etc. Sadly she also comes across as robotic and unemotional which, I guess, goes with the territory but doesn’t make for a great mother. I think that is why so many people warmed to Diana. It made a change to see a person in the RF behave (relatively) normally. Until it all went tits up of course, which was probably because she wasn’t behaving like an unemotional, detached, robotic royal!

I agree that she doesn’t rock the boat and opens things, but the myth that she stays out of politics has surely been blown out of the water just in the last few weeks with the revelations regarding the Queen’s Consent, whereby the monarch is provided with advance sight of draft laws and invited to approve them. Investigations uncovered evidence that she used the procedure to lobby the government to change a draft law in order to conceal her private wealth from the public for decades. She clearly very much does meddle in politics when it affects her and her family’s interests.
