This morning I picked up a wallet outside a local shop…no it wasn’t in someone’s back pocket it was on the ground.
It was a scruffy looking thing but contained notes and a couple of cards. I pulled out one of the cards to check the name and to my surprise I recognised the name as a woman who lives two doors away from me…P. (auline) Ma…nt
I chuckled to myself, “My my, she will be pleased.”
I put the wallet in my pocket and walked back to the car. By the car park there were 3 guys having a chat and feeling pleased with myself I said, “I’m gonna be in my neighbour’s good books, I’ve just picked up her wallet outside the shop”
One of the men does a stagey panicey pat-down and says, “OMG that must be mine”
“Oh yeah what’s your name then?” I ask…
“Paul” he replies.
“…and your last name?” I ask.
“Ma….nt” he says.
Fuck me, it’s yours.

Following comments from you lot, esp @Treebeard i convinced Mrs P_F that we still had enough pickled chilli from last year and way too much Tomato soup mix.
A subsequent trip to the shop for Imber (i had to google - ginger), brown sugar cardamon & red onions.
And today
7 small jars of chilli jam made.
A tasting session ensued.
Oh my days, explosive burning heat becomes overwhelmed by sweet intense tomato richness.
Phwoar.
Hopefully enough chilli on the bushes for one more batch!

Our chillis have been shit this year
1st bush - BIG foot log chillis - taste like a normal Paprika.
Bushes 2 & 3 absolute beauties. No idea what the brand
We did good this year - continuous from early spring and just about still going. I did remember to water and feed them this year though.
This must be the curse of the market gardener - we overlettuced this year - we couldn’t keep up with it
we fed the entire street for two straight months until everyone stopped answering the door to us

I’ve had lots of chillis this year but they have about as much kick as Che Adams from 6 yards with an open goal.

Still picking chillies - Mrs TB dries them, and after a bit blitzes them in some machine, and then she has chilli flakes for months!
Also - used first flush of tomatillos for chilli verde with pork etc etc - all now eaten! Very soon final flush of tomatillos will lead to more chilli verde with 2 kg of cubed pork shoulder (gives about 9 servings), and (hopefully) 5 to 10 jars of tomatillo pickle & savoury jam.
I’m letting the cucumber plants diet- there is a limit to the amount of pickled cucumber and cucumber relish you can have! I make people that come here take a cucumber!
