P&O has hired a private security firm to provide backup in the dispute with ferry workers.
The firm was asked to send 16 handcuff-trained officers to the Port of Dover in case of a âbacklashâ among staff after redundancies were announced.
An email sent to security guards beforehand, seen by the Telegraph , told them the job will last a week and they will be paid ÂŁ14.50 an hour. It says:
You have been selected to deploy on a task in Dover that will be fairly high profile. This task will run for 1 weekâŚ
As of the 17th you will be dispatched by coach to Dover docks to assist the client in their deliveryâŚ
I am limited on information I can provide due to a non-disclosure agreement however, the client we are assisting requires 16 officers (handcuff-trained) to support their security teams in the unlikely event some of their staff become challenging. Essentially, our client will be informing staff of redundancies and there is a possible risk of backlashâŚ
You will all need your uniform including cuffs and utility belt. You will not need body armour for this task.
It also reveals they were told to get to a hotel in the area by Tuesday and to undergo training on Wednesday.

The vessels are undermanned with qualified British crew. Now they will be undermanned with under qualified foreign crew.

Apparently there are videos circulating showing security guards, wearing balaclavas and using handcuffs âescortingâ crew members off the ships. Fucking balaclavas! Itâs the way third world banana republics behave. Our government minister admits they knew this was going to happen yesterday, but of course said and did nothing. Now today, weasel words but nothing else.
This has obviously been well planned, coaches are parked up in Hull and Dover carrying the replacement crews, from Columbia apparently! Presumably this scab labour from South America required visas so the government are lying again when they say they only knew yesterday. The Drunken Liar was probably dotting the Is and crossing the Ts with his mates in Dubai yesterday. All in all an absolutely shameful state of affairs which marks a new low for this country.
The only light note is seeing the heads explode over at the Mail and Express because French crew havenât received the same treatment. They just donât get it.

Under UAE Labour Laws you canât actually do what UK Law allowed P&O to do
Thing is loads of people are saying they have done it illegally, no consultation period etc. etc.
Also you donât make people redundant, you make the role redundant, so they must be redefining everyoneâs roles.
This has parallels with IT workers, Iâve known Barclays go through phases of permanent to agency to contract staff back to permanent, all with the same staff filling the roles. All to do with bookkeepingâŚ
