The problem with the 70’s and 80’s was that there were never any checks in any child related activity, be it the church. scouts or football etc. CRB checks were not routine. No one was taught about safeguarding and what to look out for. Parents tended to trust at face value,
When I think back to my childhood, there were a couple of occasions when things that were said by various people in positions of responsibility that would be setting of alarm bells today, but back then would have been not given a second thought. It was only when I later became aware that these people were wrong 'uns, that I recalled what was said many years previous and realised that it was odd
