Hi all! Whilst I think protest is a fundamental part of a democracy piggy packing on someoneās demise isnāt really going to help or forward the discussion, there should be a conversation on the future of the monarchy but when someone whoās been the head of state for 70 years is being wheeled past it isnāt really the apt time.
As for the arrests theyāre frankly pathetic and also show an immaturity to disagreement.
Simple answer is yes.
You then start to get into the subjectivity of who is enough of a wrong 'un to warrant abuse. If you accept it, it wonāt be long before knuckleheads start turning up at funerals to heckle because they fell out with the dead 'un over a boundary dispute of similar.
If you truly hated someone - just be glad they are gone. Dance a jig if you must, but do it privately.
I donāt think free speech is being curtailed - more like it is being suggested that it takes place in an appropriate forum.
That made me laugh - how about one of those David Blaine Perspex boxes dangled from a crane
Iād expect a barrage of abuse if Savileās body was being paraded along the street now.
But I wouldnāt want to see somebody elseās funeral cortege barracked because Savileās hypothetically alive person was associated with the deceased.
Exactly
Very true, great post welcome to the forum.
Sorry, cant agree. This is not some private funeral, a personal thing for family and friends, its by it very nature a publicly funded state āoccasionā and as such everyone has a right to state how they feel towards it. No body hates the queen, and as many of my friends have suggested, she led a remarkable life and was a remarkable lady⦠but its much easier to do so when born into a position of almost unlimited wealth and influence.
Its the issue of ādivine right to ruleā that is a clear message in the coronation protocols that many have an issue with⦠that an accident of birth following the historic warmongering to secure āoneās positionā (sic) that some folks feel is unbecoming of a modern society. I bear no ill will to the windsorās but if they want the state to fund such very public occasions, then all the public have a right to express their opinion about it at the time, not just the wailing, marmalade sandwich munching, numpties queuing for 50 hours to walk past her body.
If protest is not welcomed, then they should not expect the public to pay for this āpublic spectacleā
We are not to agree on this - you are utterly wrong imo.
I am happy to debate monarchy vs republicanism. Why donāt Republic get a petition together so it gets debated in the House of Commons. If they get support of the MPs then we will get a referendum
The problem republicans have is they are overwhelmingly in the minority- only 22% want the abolition.
Shouting abuse at the funeral cortĆØge does nothing for their cause
Anyway - people always say we want a elected head of state but no one ever says what type of person they would like to have the role
Exactly - thatās why the Saint Diana adherents at anti anyone the has a different view- this is not difficult Bob
Speaking of daft reactions, whatbthe fuck are Center Parks playing at
They are telling punters to cut short their holidays or stay somewhere for the night because they are closing for the funeral
Not disagreeing with you, ok a little bit.
if you exclude people and make it a Queenie fest then impressionable youngsters will end up perpetuating the myth that Royalty is right and tug their forelocks and dress in sackcloth
and ashes each time thereās a national āeventā
Iād love the abolition of the monarchy, but the nation isnāt mature enough to have that debate imho.
Scotland is on the way, but the establishment and tame media are managing to reign that in for the moment.
Thatās a bit condescending- the nation isnāt immature just because it is predominantly pro monarchy
Thatās moving into all Brexiteers are thick racists territory
The type of protest is not the issue, its about the right to do so when the public is paying for it⦠i dont agree with shouting abuse at anyone as it rarely achieves the desired aims, but its a basic right to protest⦠This was not a funeral cortege anyway, that happens Monday, but again if we as tax payers are paying, then everyone who is a tax payer has a right to take part in whatever way they see fit⦠you are utterly wrong⦠imho
Ar the classic urban myth ⦠no one ever said this⦠they mere stated that racists will have voted Brexit/some brexiters are racists/bigots which is true
Absolute bollocks - Iāve not read so much self opinionated crap for a while on here - OK, apart from Barry
Itās not all about you and your āfeelingsā about how everyone must respect the monarchy - OK a very rich old lady who happened to be the āhead of stateā died
I feel strongly for the family, not the institution. You donāt seem or want to accept that.
Calm yourself down, understand that a lot of people are putting up with this media fest, and being made to feel social pariahs, unable to state opinions different those you are forcefully making.
Probably best leave a little time for reflection before responding. Tomorrow would be mature. Imho of course.
I said tomorrow @cb
Why is it opinionated crap - I just challenged your opinion that the nation is too immature to have a debate on the monarchy
May be I missed the point you were making - but at first read if felt a little condescending.
I think the nation is mature enough to debate the monarchy - the outcome of the debate is one that, given your stated position , you probably wonāt like
Peace
Ah come on, how often do I get stuck in? Let me have my moment
Not often - am just getting to my station so need to drive home - maybe some more lolz on this tomorrow
