“…I support the hope that if there isnt a clear out of the board then I will be more than happy in the Championship where we can reset and get back to a club that has some form of identity…”
Not 100% sure about clearing out the board NYS, but I. Wouldn’t lose any sleep about dropping down and regrouping. Would be disappointed but wouldn’t be slitting my wrists metaphorically speaking.
Fuck all wrong with dreaming. We turned the dream into an aim. Unfortunately we became complacent a couple of years back when those at the top thought that they had the Midas touch. What worked a few times was only in part put into practice and this has continued until now. One window has cost us our stability in league position. With most of the players we buy it takes a year before they become solid first team members. In the past we’ve covered this by bringing in ready to go players if a position requires it.
Why so harsh on the dreamers. Did their enjoyment of our rise, their hope in something changing on our last slide or their praying that the club would be saved when it looked like we were going to become defunct upset you? If so why?
I agree with this. I have experienced it in business, were every thing you do comes off, each year you make more and more money and you grow the business like buggery beleiving nothing can stop your inevitable rise to becoming a master of the universe. - in short you start beleiving your own hype.
Then something crops up and knee caps you and it is a cast iron bastard to get the ship back on track. It can be done, but it ain’t easy and it ain’t pretty. On the up side, you learn some pretty fucking harsh life lessons.
Do you honestly expect us to break into the higher ecelons of English football on a consistent basis? How? Reality bites, how would we achieve that? I said this 5 years ago and yet people tupidly still believed it, Kruegar now downgrades our club to smallas we’redoing shite, fuck me most of you have been sold a donkey, succeeding isn’t in our dna, this is Southampton and no monorail salesman is going to fucing change that.
How would we have achieved breaing into the top 6/7?
The answers always make me laugh but an arms race with bigger clubs would fuck us, it is blatently obvious but dreamers dream and swallow shite.
When it all goes to shite I am happy knowing exactly who we are, it doesn;t make me love the badge, shirt or City less, it by fuck makes me laugh at dreamers, clappers and day trippers though.
I’ve never heard anyone say they expected Saints to be regular champions league tbh.
I do feel that we’re Bigger & Better now than most of our History though, so I want to take advantage of that and Win Something. Just a domestic cup or something pls. Just one. That’s all I want! I’m only bothered about staying in Premier League cos it gives you bigger budget, for better players, which ought to make winning A Cup more easy.
@barry-sanchez seriously what is wrong with having dreams? Let them aim for regular European football what is wrong with that.
Yes most of us fans are relaists and know it wasn’t going to happen but there is nothing wrong with hopes and dreams and something to aspire to?
What do you want our club to aspire to? Regular mid table finishes and a couple of trophies?
It’s acheivable because it’s a self fulfilling prophecy really, you get into Europe, you get the (better) players that want to play in Europe. If your manager doesn’t fuck it up you stay in Europe for the next season. You get more (better) players you carry on.
