The 2017 Election Thread

Signed that last night.

I could live with either outcome. Even if the TV channels don’t physically no-chair her, she will have the piss ripped out of her by every candidate in every debate and won’t be there to defend herself. I can live with that too.

One thing I’ll give the Conservatives credit for is that they’re excellent at taking the piss with their policies. Cameron could trade blows pretty deftly, without looking like a totally uncharismatic arse while doing so. May’s just not very good at it.

She’s had less than a year on the job. She says she’s calling this election because she’s being opposed by the opposition. She’s banking on Labour living up to its very shitty press.

Labour has got half a million members, more than all other parties put together. Most of them are new, and most of them very keen to doorstep or phonebank people and push policy. May was always going to have this problem. As soon as a General Election is called, everyone else was going to go into campaign mode.

Thanks to all the shite we’ve had in the last two years, Labour members have had to do a lot of campaigning. Enough to overturn the odds?

Fuck knows, but we’ve not seen its like for generations. It’s just another interesting variable in this unique contest.

I was almost with you up to the v.last word! Is that really how you see it? I’ve not heard anyone else describe it like that. V.strange word choice. Not sure what you mean by that tbh.

It has long been the maxim that people vote for the status quo when they reckon they’re doing alright, or that they’ll do alright under the next government.

Personally, I think the Conservatives have a poor track record. Their cuts or price hikes have hit millions. The public sector, still one of the nation’s largest employers, has been battered by cuts - country wide. Anyone relying on any form of state benefit apart from pensioners is probably bricking it about what goes next.

Also, anti-establishment folk haven’t fared too badly lately. One of the main problems with Corbyn has been coverage. He’ll get a lot of unedited coverage in these debates. The establishment have given all the ammunition Corbyn needs to take this mantle, and he hasn’t had to be a twat about it like Trump.

Opinions can only improve.

Given today’s events, doesn’t really look like that Fixed Term Parliaments Act was worth the legislative time.

Turns out that when a PM says:-

“Hallo. I would like to call an election”

All the other parties say “yeah, alright then”.

522 out of 650 in favour.

Sorry Pap but you’re deluded if you think more Corbyn will translate into more votes. There’s nothing the Tories would like more than Corbyn,Abbott & Mcdonnell on TV night after night.

loving Paps’ belief & faith.

faith. The PROBLEM for him is Scotland no matter how many activists hit the streets fish eggs will wipe the floor oop north.

It’s the system. Tories never had much blue on the map up there & Jezza simply won’t win 30+ seats up there.

For Jezza to have a chance he needs Garage & the homophobic to destroy the Tory vote in England.

Won’t happen

For Jezza to win he needs

Scotland, Wales back as Labour heartlands.

Without either of them he is stuck in the hinterland and will end up resigning as a mattter of course, because he never pulled it off.

Think a corbyn win would be if he only lost another 10 or 20 seats. That would be a pretty impressive result, all things consider! I mean, I like ragging on him, cos I am founder member of Contrarian Party and I have an idea it Annoys Pap, but even I would give corbyn pat on back if he achieves a massive turnaround like that.

Scotland is something of an unknown, and for all the nonsense about Corbyn, he had fuck all to do with losing Scotland. I think Labour could pick up 20 seats there alone. This idea that it’s a straight up fight between the SNP and the Tories is balls. There will be people tired of the constant referendin’, who’ll want a unionist party that aren’t pursuing a hard right agenda.

you do make me laugh p. Such Optimism! It’s Admirable srs it is. I reckon ur over-estimate corbyn prospects by approx factor of 112, but that is ok. I more worry that you waste ur time campaigning for rip horse, when you could be making frm improvements + banning tokyos.

I see Bob Marshall Andrews has joined the liberals to fight this election. He called labour and Corbyn a “basket case”, which is a bit unkind.

I just wonder whether Corbyn supporters will admit how misguided and, frankly, negligent they’ve been for pushing for an unelectable leader if the Conservatives increase they’re margin. I’ll be happy to admit I was wrong if they don’t.

Corbyn could get me On Side, if he wanted. Me + ppl like Me. It wouldn’t take v.much. His problem is we only take v.superficial overview of things, and the only Corbyn message that is getting through to Bear community, is moan moan everything is terrible. That is not a message we can get on board with! That is not how we like to think about Things!

He needs to be like, Everything is great! What great country! I’d leave most things alone, if you voted on me, but I would change just these couple of things to make it even More Better!

I could get on board with that srs. And once he’s got me, of course, he could just do whatever the fk he wanted, and I’d prob not even notice.
