The 2017 Election Thread

We do need a change of direction.

Unfortunately, Corbyn is the wrong man, at the right time.

Hey Cherts, interesting that you say that Corbyn is ‘destroying politics’ - can you expand? If politics isn’t supposed to be about principled people standing up for what they believe in on matters of national importance then what should it be exactly? Dick measuring contests between Cameron clones? Profiteering by slick marketing douches? Personality contests between handsome men in expensive suits? I’m not clear.

Why do you hate May so much Cherts? Just the Brexit issue or…?

Because simply, she’s too right wing for me.

It’s more that due to how unpopular he is, along with May they’re creating an attitude of apathy to politics, and voting. That’s what I mean.

If Labour had a genuine contender, it would create a genuine chance of change, and would encourage people to vote. All I can see happening is a low turnout, and a large win to the Conservatives. As I’ve said before, those who voted for Corbyn were warned this could happen, and if it does happen (big losses) they are complicit in what happens IMHO.

Difficult to disagree with that.

Leave it with me, I’ll think of something…

Unprincipled people trying to avoid blame for matters of trivial importance.

I would aim your anger at the completely biased press. The man has never been given a chance. They are the ones that have deliberately led a campaign to demonise him. How popular, or not, he might have been we will never know, because a handful of powerful people distort the facts for their own ends. They play God with our supposed democracy and not a word of complaint.

So it’s ok to call anyone that has voted tory since 2010 complicit in the suffering and early death of many disabled(whilst saving absolutely no money)? I know what side i’d rather be on.

I have 100% faith that Corbyn would achieve all of his policies for Spending More Money. I wouldn’t be surprised if he exceeded them! If there’s one thing that government is good at, it’s spending money.

I have zero percent faith in him getting The Rich to pay for it tho. That’s a lot more difficult. They’re slippery buggers.

That is why I feel like Corbyn would be a Bad Move. I’m pretty sure I come by this opinion myself cos I don’t pay much heed to Press really, I mostly just pick a few things up by Osmosis, or when someone is mention it on Here. It’s possible I’ve been Brainwash I spose, but if so, they’ve been v.sly about it srs.

Fucking hell, apparently I have as good as held the pillow on the heads of all the disabled and elderly since 2010. Who would have thought. You guys should have told me and I would have fixed Jedward for free.

That’s what we were told on here, so yes, I guess so. We were told that was what we voted for.

She’s not Dave or Boris, is she?

Honestly, that’s bloody funny, fair play to him.

That’s not entirely fair. We’ve known you’ve been @cb-saint from the start, and you joined pretty near the start. I reckon you’ve always got a fair crack for your opinions, and I think a big part of why you don’t get called a twat or whatever is because you don’t behave like a twat or whatever, even when vocalising a political view likely to be at odds with perceived site reception, which you don’t shy away from.

@chertsey-saint has got a different style that invites more needle.

I wonder if we’ll see balance and be treated to Mrs May being quizzed at length on her personal finances next week?

Hey guys - interesting news at the callcentre.

We’re just about to start a new campaign - polling people in Ealing Central and Acton (a constituency with barely 200 votes between the two main parties in 2015 and funnily enough, most recently a Labour gain from the Tories).

We’ll be asking the sorts of questions you’d probably expect (who’s a better leader?/who will you be voting for?/who did you previously vote for? etc.)

I’ll let you know how it goes and what I hear.

Its all quite exciting though. Its got everyone at the callcentre in election mood. Funnily enough, despite being among plenty of young, mainly minority ethnic, low-wage earning workers, everyone’s pretty chill when I tell them I’m voting for May! It really does go to show how when you get outside of the political bubble of online discussions, Twitter, the Guardian and so on, the average working person simply isn’t anywhere near as outraged as a lot of people think they ought to be.

This is exactly what I’m saying, at least somebody understands.

According to Corbyn’s supporters he’s different, he’s into a different type of politics, he’s a principled man who stands by his principles. Bollocks is he, he’s just like all the others (May included) . There isn’t a principle he won’t abandon, won’t twist to remain leader or get elected. Bloody old goat is an unprincipled incompetent, I’d rather vote for an unprincipled competent leader any day.

You lefties on here are really going to crying into your beer come election night. It’s gonna be fun watching Lady Nugee, that posh buffoon Barry Gardiner or what ever other mugs they get on to discuss the results as they come in. Hopefully it’ll give me a big a laugh as Pantsdown threatening to eat his hat (although being a Lib/Dem he broke that promise) last time. I even read that Little Timmys seat is under threat from the Tory landslide. That really will be comedy gold.

So the “modest” increase in tax for those earning over £80k is 5%.

Inheritence tax allowances will also be reduced - Bringing more family homes into the taxable estate

and the UK will definitely honour the divorce bill on Brexit (we are going to be in the single market, have unlimited migration, pay our contributions up front and keep the laws, but we really are leaving)

Go Jezza

Just spotted an “excessive pay levy” for those who earn over £330k and 50% for those on £100k

I’m going to have a field day with some of those messages. Very easy to sell to the public. It has been the first time I’ve gone into an election not holding my nose about wholesale aspects of Labour policy.
