The 2017 Election Thread

The problem with being an opportunist is that you really have to pick the right opportunities for the enterprise to work.

The Lib Dems continue their fine recent record of picking all the wrong ones.

Sebastian Payne from the Financial Times said: "You have not had that much of boost in your vote share despite focusing on 48 per cent of the country.

"You have hovered between nine and 11 per cent of the vote. Analysis suggests it is no longer 48 versus 52 as in the referendum result.

"It is now 45 per cent Hard Leavers that support Theresa May’s approach; 23 per cent Re-Leavers, people who voted Remain but want to get on with Brexit.

"And only 22 per cent Hard Remainers. That is a very small pond to fish in. You are fighting this election on a single-issue, to overturn Brexit.

“But you are only talking to 22 per cent of the electorate. It has backfired, hasn’t it?”

The former government minister struggled to counter this analysis.

Sir Vince said: "No, no, we are talking to 55 per cent. The majority do not want this extreme UKIP-style Brexit.

Corbyn appoints a (nother) communist…

And it’s not just May who avoids questions…

I always wondered what they’d done after Eurovision and their couple of hit singles…

I’ll let you off the lack of substantiation. The Spectator never bothered.

Windows XP, mate.

If Phil Hammond rips off Theresa’s skirt, I’m gonna chuck.

Its good to see that our resident floating voter is still keeping an open mind, eh Duckie? And why do you get overly excited when talking about alleged discrepencies in Corbyn’s position whilst leaving May alone? What do you think about her about face on Brexit for example. Worthy of getting worked up about maybe? There is being pragmatic and taking a considered position, as you often have to in the politcial arena, or then there is just hitching your wagon to the most politically expediate position in the hope that it will help your career. Which is more “pony?”

I think the point is that people say Corbyn has integrity and that is the reason to vote for him, when this proves he’s the same as the rest. He’s not saying May has integrity - she’s a career politician so clearly has none.

I watched the interview. When pressed he said that they both know that he couldnt give a specific answer because it was dependent on what happened down the line. He also made the point several times that they would strive to get the best deal for Britain. Does that sound like someone who isnt planning on leaving or does it sound like someone who knows of the difficulties ahead and doesnt want to give an answer that might be different in several months time dependent on circumstances?

Nice of you to step in for Duckie, Cherts, but I am sure he can answer for himself. I think people will vote for what suits them best and for many that will be a hard Brexit sadly. I prefer Corbyn out of all the Party leaders because he has clear principles whereas the others, May in particular, just do what they need to do. Yes he will have to bend in some areas if he were to become PM. That is the way it works here unless you want a dictatorship. But if we are talking political and personal integrity between Corbyn and May, Corbyn wins hands down. You know what you are getting with Corbyn, like it or not. With May you do not - unless you believe the strong and stable leadership mantra bollocks of course.

Yeah, but we know that. I’m unsure what your point is as I don’t think anyone’s argued that May has more integrity than Corbyn, just that Corbyn doesn’t have as much as his supporters like to make out.

I couldn’t give a fuck, I think both May and Corbyn are utter car crashes that are both destroying politics and creating apathy in the country, apart from for 250k left wing nut jobs. For the few, not the many with Corbyn.

Sigh.

Oh dear, Blighty, the home of democracy and Moral Standards.

Yeah Vote for the right Policies

Or was it for the biggest Tits? (Well yeah not those Tits like May Corbyn et al)

In a nutshell -

‘You won’t be asking male candidates their penis size’: Horrified Labour election candidate, 22, is bombarded by messages from men asking her to strip for votes and demanding to know ‘the size of her rack’

  • Emily Owen, 22, says she is ‘shocked’ at the sexist abuse she has received
  • One man said he will only vote for her when he knows the size of her 'rack’
  • Another man asked 'how many votes for a striptease?'
  • Miss Owen, who is is standing for Labour in Aberconwy, said men will not be treated to the same harassment she has had to endure

I am sure many would agree with you Cherts. The thing is, one of the car crashes is going to end up as PM so hopefully we will get the one car crash that gives least collateral damage.

Profile and interview from Channel 4 news. Fairly balanced.

I don’t think we’ve claimed much more than he’s decent, honest and has been on the right side of history when many of the right side of his party were not.

I couldn’t give a fuck, I think both May and Corbyn are utter car crashes that are both destroying politics and creating apathy in the country, apart from for 250k left wing nut jobs. For the few, not the many with Corbyn.

May is a car crash. I think you know, deep down, that we need a change of direction, and we were never going to get it with New Labour.

Remember the May 2015 debates. Austerity was a point of truth for all three main parties.
