My bad! Should have said County Council not Borough Council elections. Doh.
That Russian sense of humour, eh?
Give it a week!
Theresa May is becoming ever more Presidential, increasingly becoming our version of Trump. Beyond satire really.
Today it is being reported that Conservative parliamentary candidates in marginal seats are referring to themselves as “Theresa May’s local candidates”, following instructions from Party HQ. In an apparent attempt to win votes by distancing themselves from their party and instead associate themselves with the Prime Minister. Tory election banners in the north of England don’t have Conservative party branding on them. In Leeds last week she spoke to bused in party members,(the general public were not, of course, allowed in), in front of banners reading, “Theresa May: Strong, Stable Leadership in the National Interest”, but including no mention of the Tories. The party activists meanwhile, held identical signs saying “Theresa May: Strong, Stable leadership”. This morning the party took out blanket front page adverts in the Northern regional press with the same message, but no mention at all of the party she represents.
It really does speak volumes when the Conservative government running this country has become such a toxic brand that it can’t be mentioned North of Watford!
The chappy in North Korea with the dodgy haircut will be nodding his head in approval.
It’s not just this Conservative government, it’s all Conservative governments of the past.
But as we know from Brexit, a lot of Northerners are racist idiots that like a soundbite, so keep the party off the page and just keep on repeating…
Shall we call this, “The Corbyn Effect”?
I’m v.confident the local election results is either non-relevant or actually good news for corbyn, but I will have to wait for pap to finish his 9 hours before I find out Why
The good news is that UKIP took a hammering. The bad news is that the Tories look like becoming the new UKIP.
In the 90s Labour adopted some Tory policies to gain votes, May is now playing the right wing extremism card to do the same.
But there’s nothing to worry about.
You’ll be absolutely fine as long as you don’t get old, ill, or poor.
“It is a pretty disastrous picture. It is simply not good enough for a party that has been in opposition for seven years, heading towards a general election in five weeks, to not be picking up seats and making forward progress.”
Stephen Kinnock
Labour have let this happen. Those that voted Corbyn in are as culpable as those that vote Conservative in the next election because they were warned this could happen.
If course, these elections have no real bearing on the GE, but I think it could be pretty telling.
There is an element of truth in that - every government of any flavour should have an opposition.
I don’t see one.
omg pap is not only personally responsible for costly & dangerous Brexit, but also entirely to blame for rise of Tory & Right Wing Fascism! How is he sleep at night!
Edit: sry, why am I rag on pap all the time? I will only rag on pap until general election cos I think there will be lols + drama in it, and then I will rag on someone else trust. I’m already making a List.
It is a sorry state of affairs, but I’m not sure what those who voted in Corbyn have done wrong. Surely Blair/Brown was a bigger issue? We had a watered down Tory Party and now we have a Labour Party again (despite the best efforts of those who want to remain a watered down Tory Party). The problem Corbyn faces (apart from Diane Freakin Abbot) is that the country has shifted to the right big time. The Brexit vote has emboldend those who felt that UKIP spoke for them and May is reaping the benefits. I was hoping that there might be some kind of reaction from the Remainers but if the Council elections results are anything to go by, there will be no backlash and we will meakly follow our Strong And Stable Leader into another 5 years of shit.
Not sure if UKIP losses is gd for Tory Party long term. They need a strong UKIP, cos it makes them look less cunts. Corbyn needs to get a hard left Death To All Millionaires party going, to make him look less mental. Unless he is try to fill that void Hisself.
I’d argue that the mainstream media have made this happen because they don’t want to give Corbyn a fair crack of the whip, either because they’re Tory supporters or Blairites. Still, if all that matters to Labour is getting power whatever the costs, I agree it was a mistake to vote Corbyn as leader.
Soggy? Stop it.
We all know that UK is in for another 5 years of shit no matter who gets in.
All that ever changes is the thickness of the sliced bread you lot get to put around the filling of shit and whether you get Marmite or Branston bits.
(Or in the case of Pap get a marketing job telling everyone that the wafer thin slices his krew are selling are really toast sliced and you won’t taste the shit so much)
I wish I knew better than hundreds of thousands of voters. Quite a skill, I’d imagine.
