The 2016 close season transfers thread

I do like Pelle and when he’s on form he’s very good. I’ve not seen someone use their chest the way he does before and for a big lump he has a great touch and eye for pass. However, he is rather hit and miss and I hate his constant moaning on the pitch. In my humble opinion, Benteke is better and I would rather have him than Pelle anyday of the week. Not ony is he better, he’s younger. He’s gone to shit at Liverpool because they don’t play to his strengths, whereas I think we would. I know you can’t compare Sterling and Pelle as they’re different types of players, but my way of looking at it is who I would rather have in my team - and that would be sterling.

If Barry was Sterling, which board member would Pelle be - on your scale?

There is a theory that Pelle’s form dips when the cold weather kicks in. If he goes to Everton with Ron it will be interesting to see if that is the case.

Oh it’d be hilarious if Pelle went to Everton. Again, ambition. That said, don’t think he will. Sounds as if that relationship has gone sour. He could barely get a kick towards the end of the season. Though, Long’s hugely improved form rightly kept him out.

In my continuing efforts to crack the lone wolf, and start a little bromance, I find myself in agreement with Fatso. I am a fan of Graziano, but he is such a purple patch player. He tries hard, but when it’s not going for him, nothing sticks. Also, yeah, the constant shouting and gesticulating is somewhat annoying. Also, I’d have both Benteke & Sterling over him. Granted both haven’t had great seasons, but there’s undoubtedly talent there in both. Think Sterling is often judged in an overly harsh manner, but that’s what we do to English kids right? Build them up to knock them straight back down.

I think we should take it slow, KRG. I’ve been hurt by previous online bromances.

Reports in Italy say Fiorentina want # saintsfc forward Sadio Mane. Would surely be out of their price range though # transfers

I think Sterling was built up (typically) by the English press because of 1 good season with Liverpool, the next best thing etc. etc. etc.

I firmly believe he jumped ship waaay too early (for money, quelle surprise) if he had stayed at 'pool I think he would be 3 times the player he is now.

@Fatso re Benteke, in his current Liverpool form I would still have Pelle over him, however were he to regain the form that he had at Aston Villa then I would have him over Pelle. Again another player who chose money over playing regulalry, if Villa had had him last serason I doubt they would now be in the Championship.

Cedric linked with Barcelona, according to TUI

btripz…i imagine that benteke thought he would be playing regularly given that Liverpool spent £32m on him. You don’t move for that much money and expect to be just a squad member. They stitched him up, it’s bit greed to move from villa to Liverpool.

I know I’m never going to win any friends with this, but as I have said countless times before and even recently in relation to Ron:

Who in their fucking right minds is going to turn down a x2/x3 pay rise?

Benteke was 24 when Liverpool came in for him. There’s been reports that he is their highest paid player, or there abouts. It’s suggested that he earns in the £120k - £140k p/w region.

Yeah, it’s easy to knock the guy and say he just went for the money (I really don’t buy that either, tbh. Villa were a club in free fall, have only been going one way for years. Much as we do’t like them, Liverpool are a massive club. That is undeniably a step up.), but who can honestly say they would not have at least seriously considered going from around £50k p/w to £120k p/w when they were that age (or frankly, any age).

However, I again, agree with fatso ( :lou_is_a_flirt:). With the figures involved, both fees and wages, you probably aren’t going to think of yourself as the bit-part player he became. It’s probably not his fault that a new manager coming in after his arrival didn’t fancy him at all. Not to mention, footballers - like most athletes - are ego driven creatures. They think they are better than everyone else. I doubt many players move to clubs seriosuly thinking “I’ll never play, but at least I’ll get more money”.

EDIT: Cleaned up typo and added a missing word. Soz.

Oi! Im grooming fatso to be the new tokyos RIP. It’s down to him & sarb at the moment. KRG can have sloppy seconds with whoever don’t make the Cut.

Has sterling ever had any real value against the euro? (had to be done)

Tokyo? who? Thought he was your bastard lovechild, made of concrete, but seems he was a wuss if a bit of waving of panties with the long haired girly pap was enough to exile him… ‘‘TOKYO… where are you?, Lets be having you!’’

The Mirror saying that “it is understood…” that we have reluctantly accepted that Vic will head to Spurs to be with Pochettino again.

An £11M deal being discussed apparently.

Shouldn’t it be closed season? I can understand open season, but close? Close to what? Anyway, just curious, and I’m normally happy to read through many pages of posts to avoid double posting, but haven’t bothered with this one because it’s quite fast moving stories.

Southampton chasing Redmond from Norwich along with Stoke. What I want to know is who from Southampton FC is chasing him?
