🖖 Star Trek returning to small screens :starfleet:

Almost done with my S1 Strange New Worlds.

Fucking hell, what a fucking stinker EP9 is.

I think you have to be born yesterday to enjoy it

S2 is largely way better. On not, depending on your point of view.

h Hemmer and the canon building up to the TOS episode Arena.

But yes, it wasn’t the slickest

No spoilers but the TOS story Arena was written in 1947 and then tweaked for the TOS with credit given to the original writer.

Arena - Kirk & a bloke in a Dinosaur suit

Slick wasnt the issue

It ripped off much better sci fi and horror stuff.

And they used that to move characters on.

A subtle difference between S1 & 2 of SNW and one which in many ways goes against the canon was how Pike took a back seat and the crew stepped up.
Previously Trek was Captain centric.

It helped S2 raise up a level and was " not a wrters choice!"
No real spoilers

Many Star Trek series essentially revolve around the Captain as the main character. This is especially evident in shows like Star Trek: Discovery , which is driven by the actions of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). Strange New Worlds season 1 was heavy on Captain Pike as the centerpiece and decision-maker, but this wasn’t quite the case in season 2. Anson Mount became the father of a newborn baby during Strange New Worlds season 2’s production, and he received more time off to be with his family. To compensate, Strange New Worlds season 2 built episodes around the rest of the cast, from La’an’s time travel romance in "“Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” to Spock’s comedic jaunt as a human in “Charades” to Dr. M’Benga’s traumatic past explored in “Under the Cloak of War.”

The more i see of Strange New Worlds the less srrrange and new it seems to be.

It is also creating some strange new continuity problems. How come when they rob the Enterprise in Search for Spock Ihura mever mentions she has stolen it before?

Have you ever watched something and just enjoyed it for what it is rather than over think it?

Personally, I enjoyed SNW as something put in front of me purely as a piece of entertainment.

I’m often in complete praise of things but i won’t clap my hands like a seal when the fish on offer is reheated and stinking.

Meh

People’s boats float differently

I think this is going the same way as Discovery S2.

They will work theirvway backwards, desperately trying to pretend it’s all canon

They’d have been better off going the Kelvin route

Except the show is getting praise from nerd land for how it is tidying up gaps in canon in S2.

With Disco i could overlook the plot holes because trek was back on TV and it was better than nothing.
Picard S3 showed what could be achieved with proper writing and love and a lot of research
SNW S2 is great and back fills TOS

Lots of things are popular without being good.

On the basis of the evidence so far, I haven’t seen its greatness yet.

It’s a very well put together show in terms of production values. As I think I’ve said, it’d be better off in its own timeline.

As presented by the people at Paramount, it doesn’t fit the billing. Despite what they say, there’s no way this lines up with established canon. Uhura alone is ridiculous.

I have seen a bit more of Strange New Worlds. These are better episodes, but the budget cuts are obvious.

Episode 3, a good episode, was clearly a cheap one to make, as it was filmed in downtown Toronto, is probably my favourite of the run.

There’s a really good line in this which could lead to the show fulfilling its potential or [erhaps more cynically, a device to reset the whole of SNW and Discovery.

“This was all supposed to happen in 1992”, referring to Khan’s emergence shifting. Now if they’re smart, they’ll just say, yeah, this is our Trek now and have their own go at a TOS timeline.

If they’re not, the whole timey wimey lark will be just used to get us all back to square one, where the NCC-1701 was made of cardboard

I have seen most of Strange New Worlds and while my mind might be changed i think the writers ran out of ideas awhile back.

I thought the crossover episode was cute enough but the musical episode a pale imitation of the Buffy episode it steals the plot from.

And I’m done with S2 of Strange New Worlds. It’s a big dip in quality from the first season. The finale, which ends on a cliff-hanger, had me tutting in disgust as shot after shot was lifted from Alien.

At least we know what Gorn stands for.

  • Greatest
  • Overall
  • Robbery of
  • Narrative.

It’s pretty tired stuff and none of the many things they pilfer are done well.

I think it has the same problem as Discovery Season 2. Great characters let down by derivative material. Absent some Picard-S3 like renaissance, not sure I will be tuning in next season. I stopped watching Discovery after S3 as well.

And Lower Decks returns.
Forget canon, writing, whatever, it is just goosebumps
Whtly?
Because their nonsense takes place on Voyager…
Ah, just warm slippers & comfort food.
