It’s the big 50 on Saturday. How the fuck did that happen?? My brain still stubbornly refusing to budge from the mid 20’s but my body is refusing to cash in the chips these days

I am being taken to London tomorrow for a long surprise weekend. Hopefully it is food and wine based

Not much of a surprise if you know you’re going to London tomorrow already

You’ll be going shopping and to a show, so don’t get your hopes up.

Happy B’day for Saturday btw ( getting it in now as I’ll be pished by midday)

I remember getting to 30, like a man having climbed Everest, looked at my 20s and thought thank fuck they’re over, I hope I never see them again.

I saw bits of them again.

Welcome to the other side of the hill. I hope they’ve fixed a splendid meal for you.

Not often but with a bloody stinking hangover I bet

Ah, I can remember being fifty (which is more than can be said for @lifeintheslowlane). Happy birthday, you young scamp.

:open_mouth: Bloody hell 50 is like fuckin’ yesterday…I’d been retired 3 years by that time and spent most of my time around Slowlane Mansion organising the drilling rig and storage tanks in the Lower Forty. You kids will be lucky to make to my current age.

After wearing glasses for 67 years i now have new eyes. Well, sort of. I have had cataracts removed, had the second eye done last week. I started wearing glasses aged five, after starting school in 1954, when after a few frustrating weeks it was discovered that i wasn’t thick, I just couldn’t see the writing on the blackboard, ( I was so short sighted I could hardly see the blackboard to be fair)! Have worn glasses ever since, impossible to function without them, everything a blur. Now with cataracts removed and new lenses inserted a surprising, to me, side effect is perfect eyesight. Although I need reading glasses, impossible to read anything like phone, mail, books etc, which is always the case apparently. It will take about a month to settle down, I have to put drops in the eye four times a day for two weeks which is a bit of a pain at times, but a small price to pay I think. My left eye was done two months ago, my right eye is still a wee bit out of focus with the left but the surgeon assured me all will be fine in a couple of weeks once my brain gets the message.
It’s quite a novelty at the moment, not least seeing people I know who clearly don’t recognize me until the last minute, when they do an about turn. I’m off down to West Wales in a couple of weeks to see my son and daughter for a week or so, they are intrigued as they have never really seen me without specs, my daughter asked me the other day what colour my eyes were, she genuinely didn’t know, all my life my glasses have been the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I take off at night.
The reading bit will take a bit of getting used to, if I go anywhere i have to remember to take them with me in case I get an SMS that needs responding to, or asked to sign anything. Although I will have a pair of prescription glasses I think I will go to a chemist and match them up with some off the shelf cheapos and leave them laying about in strategic places. I may well leave a pair behind the bar at my local, in much the same way as the real ale afficionados leave their favourite tankard there!

Ah, but that is the old Nottarf-Krap. What we have now is the new, super improved version!

Lady Slowlane is going through the same process at the moment…had her left eye done 3 weeks ago and waiting for the follow-up appointment to set a date for the other eye.
She’s aware she’ll need reading glasses but going the same route in buying several pairs of cheapies and scattering them about the house.
