365 days ago we landed in Poland. My last flight out of Dubai wasnt what I imagined. Business Class & Bubbles.
It was mates rates and no booze as I had to clear our cat from customs then drive from Warsaw to here.
We were broken. Not just Dubai broken but 8 weeks of having to pack or sell or give away our stuff. 200 Kg by air thanks to a friend - we saw it when we were collecting the cat.
Who knew Iād only use my golf clubs onceā¦
Friends helped ,us, crowd funded us and loaned us.
It took WAY longer than we expected to start earning in fact we were on fumes when we started earning peanuts.
But.
We were happy. We had an amazing apartment with views of trees and hills and a river.
Tonight ii am sipping my last vodka on our balcony. Tomorrow a new, and no doubt more complicated saga begins.Work will be tougher as I have to commute an hour just to get to the van.
Tonight, again, we are broken. 3 weeks of manic DIY with no budget and we have finished refurbishing āDadsāā rooms.They had not been touched since 1953. Tomorrow we move in. For 3 weeks Iāve made at least 3 trips down 2 storeys to pack stuff into a hatchback whoās boot doesnāt open. Mrs P_Fhas been off on sick leave so limited to basic cleaning stuff while āIncles & In Lawsā have stepped in to help with new wiring doorways & Lentels. I could & should have walked away screaming. It has been hell.
The only thing that has pushed me to the dark side was being unable to find a fvcking IKEA Allen Key to dismantle my office chair.
Being off season, Iāve had 3 trips this month, about Ā£60 but those superstars coughed up the same in tips
But weāve done it.
I will finish my Gargantuan Vodka. Tomorrow I will do those stairs about 10 more times andā¦
We will finally move in with Mum.
And being Poland, Brother in Law & his family, until they move out at Easter.
Dubai gave me once in a lifetime moments every month.
Poland has given me.
Pain
3am trips in Blizzards at -12C.
But.
I have been HAPPY here and I have a life back

The Princess is at home.
Yep we did it. About 30 trips up & down those stairs today, 2 car loads and borrowed the Van for some big stuff AND her Ladyship.
Mrs P_F scrubbed the old place spotless for 15 hours.
Arrival suitably celebrated with a Spitfire Ale & a 50" spicy Pizza between us & āMumā.
Tomorrow? Queueing at 9am at Leroy Merlin. (Posh Homebase/Waites clone) Roller Blinds on sale from Ā£1 a set.
