Seeing a few more users hit the ignored user report. This makes me sad. Iām not on any of the lists like, which is surprising, but itās not something Iām a huge fan of, but I accept that it can be a necessary evil when youāve got a troll on the rampage.
These are the reasons I hate the ignore functionality for anything else than a rampaging troll.
- I just see it as a lack of self-control. Iāve been on forums for over a decade and have ignored precisely no-one.
- In many cases, itās used as a sanction.
- It leads to crappy ācan you not quote his posts. I have him on ignoreā
- It goes against the Sotonians maxim of freedom of speech.
- It assumes that the poster is never going to say anything of value again
Having seen the people that are ignored, I would not class any of them as rampaging trolls. I get the sense that theyāre just sanctions, undeserved and that doesnāt sit right with me.
Iāve got no dog in this fight. Amazingly I am not on the list. But itās disappointing to me as site owner to see people get ignored that should be celebrated.
I wonāt stop anyone from ignoring anyone else, nor will I ever say who is ignoring whom, but at the same time, I will take a dimmer view of anyone making capital out of ignoring someone.
If need be, I will take my dwarven arse into Mount Badgium to create an ignore bore badge for anyone that boasts about ignoring someone.
If you genuinely canāt handle someone, fair enough, but donāt keep burying someone already dead to you.
I would much prefer that all ignores were rescinded in peace time.

I donāt ignore anyone on this site, but the reason for that is twofold - 1) Generally people on here are alright, and 2) I donāt know how to.
