You are right, he has a much better squad to work with at Leicester. But our current gaffer is not doing anywhere near as good as Puel did with same. I think people under estimated Puel. Unfortuently I think MP has joined a club, which has seen it’s peek a couple of years ago. Now how we go about rebuilding, I don’t know.
That was fucking appalling. I’m really not sure that I’ve ever seen us play worse than that. Plus it was fucking cold and fucking wet and fucking miserable. Still, the bacon and egg bap I had on the way back to my car wasn’t bad.
Absolutely spot on comment, i can’t understand why it received a downvote. All this tinkering about is crazy, leaving those three out made no sense at all. Matched man City , were unlucky not to beat Arsenal, then leave out three of the players who were the main contributers to that, change the formation that was working and get hammered at home by Leicester. Only Pellegrino knows why, certainly not for any good footballing reasons that’s for sure. VVD was awful again, let’s face it, he has made it quite clear he doesn’t want to play for the club, just going through the motions now. He shouldn’t be anywhere near the team. Although Puel was modest in his victory he could have been excused for crowing a bit, i’m sure inside he was feeling extremely pumped up after watching his side inflict a major humiliation on the club who sacked him after one reasonably successful season. And who could blame him.
Young Jack Stephens was not selected for months, then came in for the Arsenal game and played a blinder, Hojberg just starting to establish himself in the side, by common consent one of the most influencial players in the last few games, looking a class apart, so what does Pellegrino do? Drops them both to the bench. Likewise Redmond, i freely admit to being one of his biggest critics on here, but in the last couple of games he was starting to show that he was recovering the form that saw him get his first England cap. Surely this is the time to build on that, show some acknowledgement of his return to form, encourage him not drop him. Fucking senseless. Man management is not one of Pellegrino’s strong points thats for sure. How to piss off your promising young players in one easy lesson. The whole scenario is just so fucking depressing.
I agree with all of this except the Redmond part (obviously). I still haven’t seen an improvement in him. Boufal still needs to play for the wildcard factor.
I also find it bizarre how in and out of the side Hoedt has been. He wasn’t even in the squad last night. Why pay £17m for him and then not bother playing him? Sure he ballsed up against Bournemouth but he will learn from that.
What I do know is that we have dropped 3 points from games where Yoshida has been beaten in the air (Burnley and Arsenal). Hoedt’s stats were close to rivalling VVD in the air so why isn’t he playing more regularly? I don’t mean this to sound like a specific criticism of Yoshida, more an observation. If Hoedt plays in the Burnley game then it’s VVD playing on the right hand side and contests with Vokes. I know the world doesn’t really work that way but you get the point.
What I do know is that result makes the Everton game feel like a very long time ago. Our inability to score more than once is strange. Although admittedly better than not being able to score at all. Only four clean sheets this season shows that scoring just the one goal isn’t going to be enough to take maximum points.
I cannot see us getting anything from Chelsea so that makes it a MASSIVE MUST WIN game against Huddersfield.
If we aren’t careful we are going to run out of the perceived ‘easier’ games.
I’d drop VVD for Hoedt, not Yosh. Yosh is one of the only players showing any fight or pride right now.
I said it some time ago, but Puel is is the ultimate pragmatist - the reason the football was invariably shit and boring with us wasn’t Puel’s fault, it was Puel’s solution to the shit players he had available. That’s why you see him playing much better football now he has a much better class of footballer to work with.
The majority of (largely dipshit) fans (and obviously players) who called for Puel’s sacking were blaming the wrong person for our failings, and now it shows. It was new players we needed, not a new manager.
He’is not playng the football the players are at Leicester and I assume his remit was to return to the Raneri counter attacking era, its worked and why wouldn’t it with their players? They’d carve most sides up, thats not Puel thats Mahrez who is genuinely top top class, add Vardy’s pace on the counter attack and well its not rocket science, our midfield are slow, as is our forward line, so we can only pass it round the back and we don’t have the players for that so in short we’re pretty shit and we’re going backwards, you don’t have to be a football manager to know this, why have Everton picked up? Again playing to the teams core strengths, its not fucking rocket science but people on here believe or want to believe the shite the club say.
That’s the problem though. There are no “easy” games and I appreciate you used the word perceived so I assume you agree. Mid table now stretches from mid table to the bottom. We cant even rely on Palace to roll over now and the clubs having a poor run previously have got their shit together. I can see why MP is rotating players and from what he said the other day he feels confident that the squad are up to it. From last night’s efforts that would not seem to be the case. I was in the pub at 5:45 yesterday and cant even remember what time I staggered home, so havent watched the debacle yet. Not sure if watching it with a hang over is a good idea. Like others I thought we had turned the corner. I dont believe that our players are shite. We have shown that we can compete with the best of them when we turn up. The problem is turning up. MP has got a huge job on his hands. As for Claude, I would have given him one more season so I am pleased that he is getting a chance to redeem himself. That was a massive result for him last night and I hope he gets more respect from the Leicester fans than he got from ours.
Of course, with the exception of a team turning up and having an absolute mare (Everton) there definitely aren’t any easy games. As a Saints fan I’ve never taken anything for granted.
But objectively you’d say a game against City or Chelsea etc is harder than most other games.
That said, look at the table. We have played Swansea at home, Newcastle at Home and taken just 2 points. We have also drawn away at Huddersfield, Brighton and Bournemouth. You would hope to secure more points from those games than we have because you cannot rely on taking too many points from the financial muscle at the top of the table.
January is coming so let’s see what the club does. A proper number 10 and or some direct pace on the wing is sorely needed. Also a goalkeeper to seriously compete with Forster, because it appears McCarthy isn’t up to it.
BTripz nails it with his thread title. The interesting possibilities
The return of Bazza
Major flooing in the SO area as wives laundry bed sheets
Clearly disgruntled players because of the rotation
The probability that VVD will n ow go nowhere and we will fight to stave of $50mil bids for Maya
The continuation of the shocking fact that FF actually saves some shots on target
And the most interesting possibility is that we will have an exciting New Year as our next few games means we will be dragged into the relegation scrap.
How about avoiding these possibilities in the next title BT?
I don’t like it when you two squabble, it makes me all sad inside But ‘mud filled cod piece’ did make me chuckle, even if I don’t fully understand it, am I missing a reference or is it 100% original Baz?
