Thereās a long history of most people in Israel being pissed off with the ultra-Orthodox. Apparently, many of them do not work. The recent fuss was over military service, not something the ultra-Orthodox have been traditionally involved in.
There is a huge divide between the tolerant and progressive Jews and the Ultra Orthodox, one wants relations and a two state solution and actually cares what the Worlds thinks of Israel and Palestine and the other are a shower of religious zealots.

Orthodox Jews are among the most vocal critics of both zionism and/or the treatment of Palestinians. I completely accept that there are also people as you describe, but even so, tarring a lot of people with the same brush.
Far more ultra orthodox are pro land grab and building settlements and having 7 children with the state paying (which really fucks of the more liberal minded as its costs them loads more in taxes), nothing controversial there Pap as once again its fact.
And then the draft dodgers are telling the rest how they should be living.

The replies to that Twitter thread says a lotā¦not one voice from a pro-israeli, theyāre silent when faced with bare-face oppression as were the soldiers carrying out their orders.

Suspect Israel is backing itself into a corner where the pro-Jewish sentiment is going to be overtaken by the anti-Israeli sentiment- which are two very, very different things (from the outside).
Ethnic cleansing. Pure and simple.

Itās certainly the case that Netanyahu gains from this. Whether heās provoked it deliberately or simply used events to his own advantage is another question. But heās got plenty of previous.
