Good point. Beat Inter and we will be in a very strong position. You cannot underestimate how difficult it would have been out there for Saints with the little experience in Europe that we have. The long journey, the hostile country and fans in the stadium, all a great experience, but on to Milan, where I am sure we can pull out a win.

Never looked in any real danger at the back even with a mostly 2nd string back four. We were pretty toothless up front but with Inter losing again this group is ours for the taking.

People who are expecting gung-ho performances away from home in Europe aren’t being realistic. Puel is an old hand in Europe and he set-up his side first and foremost not to get beaten. After the 3 - 0 home win that’s the luxury we could afford…that and resting the players who need to be looked after.
You could see he was totally focussed on his game plan…Hesketh wasn’t doing what he wanted so he made a quick, bold substitution. He’ll nurture the lad…he knows what he’s doing with young players so I don’t see it damaging the lad.
All in all a competent away performance aimed a getting at least a point without damaging our prospects of a good performance on Sunday.

Agree with you both. Shrewd, savvy European away game tactics from the gaffer.
Made up with the draw, the performance wasn’t good lets not kid ourselves but that in itself proves what we expect from a SFC performance of late.
A good draw away from home, solid performance and we’re still top of the group. Best chance was Virgil’s header - so early in the game that I thought it was a defensive clearance!
Watched it in the Sheaf near Borough Market with Bucks, Mrs Bucks and JxgrSaint and it was a good dry run (actually not dry at all) for the Inter game. If we can get a few more I’ll reserve one of the rooms at the back as it was surprisingly full for a Thursday

Cheers SO5 and it was good to meet Jxgr. Good venue to watch the game, getting our own room was a nice touch and will certainly do the job for Inter if we can 5-6 to turn out.

Puel has so far demonstrated great judgement in putting out a team to do a job.
If he can keep juggling league and cup games like this, he’s going to have a very decent season.
Pity about that header, but a good result.

So, we’re still top of the group, unbeaten in Europe, have rested some important players and we all seem to be very impressed with the manager.
I did like his honest explanation on the subbing of Hesketh. More like a father than a manager at the end. Cluade obviously rates him very highly.
Enough of being rational now. Next up in Europe it’s Inter Milan at the San Siro. We’re going to put out a full strength team against Inter and win by at least 4 
Here’s hoping for a good game on Sunday and Charlie(Mr golden boot 16/17) Austin to get a brace.

Loving the clean sheets. Job done as eloquently said above. Long needs a goal very very badly, reminds me of Pelle when he first came here you can see the frustration.

Another clean sheet was probably the highlight and not to be underestimated. Good for Yoshida and particularly Targett who still looks unsure of himself at times(i blame RK). As for Long, i fully expect him to take his frustrations out on some teams defence very soon, so 1 positive from the game and 1 to look forward too.
I had an eye on this game last night, but cannot claim to be any more involved than that.
Wasn’t much excitement to be had from what I was seeing, but also, a bit unlucky not to win.
Just 300 Saints fans, apparently. Tough game in a tough arena. Sad we didn’t win. Glad of the point.
