šŸ“ŗ GOOD SHOWS (no capeshit pls)

Had mixed reviews mainly on how it adhered to the book not the cinematography.

I’m still plodding through Love Death & Robots.
It IS groundbreaking TV. Up there with Black Mirror. Each episode is about 10 minutes long every genre imaginable as well as filming style. Real actors animation & cartoons.
Some work some flop.
The robot tourists & cats. The Vampires, the spaceship overshoot all stick.
Ramona from Scott Pilgrim in Ice Age is memorable. Alternative Histories is clever. Putin as 1st man on moon.
It’s a late night, couple of episodes before bed after a Rum or flavoured vodka.
Netflix obviously.
Get on it.

Oooh.
Waiting for this to return is almost as bad as waiting for Glasto

It’s back!
As good as ever.
See you in a day or two.
Stranger Things S3

1 episode in.
Oh yes, worth the wait. 1985 music …

Review no spoilers.
The kids are back, they are teenagers. It starts in 1984 moves to ā€˜85 pretty quick.
S2 was pretty conclusive but the Duffer Brothers dont rest on their laurels.
We noticed, it isn’t a comedy but bits of humanity/culture from that era are now funny enough to laugh. There is a happiness to the episodes that hits a nerve if you lived through it yet a very indistinct almost early Stephen King menace at every turn.
We know it is giving millenials their first true experience of that era for us it is a nostalgia heaven, again and perhaps now even more so.
There are cracking "unremembered tracks from 1985 and the banging classics are all in ā€œclassicā€ situations some made us laugh some made us cringe, some made us just say fuck yeah.
Whatever ā€œgenreā€ we would have called this if it had been made in 1985, it is today, just perfect.
A homage to John Carpenter, Stephens’ King & Spielberg.
It’s so good we decided to NOT binge it.
2 episodes a night to simply savour, wonder at, have our stomachs churned and jump out of our seats.
Marvellous television.

I’ve pretty much binged on ā€œMy Brilliant Friendā€ a HBO / RAI production. Possibly not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s an adaption of the books by pseudonymous author Elena Ferrante. It is based on a story of two girls growing up in a poor part of town on the very outskirts of Napoli. So poor they don’t even know what the sea looks like. They’re both very bright girls and the first series shows them as young girls then teenagers. I think it’s beautifully filmed. It has subtitles but I’ve read that as it’s using Neapolitan dialect from the 50s even the Italians needed sottotitoli.
I watched it on Now TV but think it may be on Amazon? Series 2 is due later this year.

Just started on Stranger Things series 3. Loving all the 80s fashion!

Plus apparently Charlie Heaton who plays Jonathan has been seen twice at a local bar and coffee shop. I was here on Tuesday chatting away to one of the guys working there. Next time!

My word, how bloody superb Stranger Things 3 is
Darker deeper funnier.
Brilliant just brilliant

My son says there’s an end credit scene after the final episode…I’m only halfway through episode 3 so wouldn’t know but I can say it has got dark rather quickly

Doing Gomorrah from the start. Previously only got half way through series 3 before drifting off due to too much other stuff to do… S1 just so good

Also order DVDs of Romanzo Criminale series 1&2 as really enjoyed these when broadcast on Sky Arts - really good 70s Italian crime vibe.

I started Gomorra again yesterday. I really like Inspector Montalbano and the Young Montalbano. I will have to check out Romanzo Criminale. I can find loads of Spanish stuff in Netflix but not so much Italian stuff (need to brush up rusty Italian).

I would watch it.

Another Life.
Imho someone went to Netflix with a concept, copy the split in The Expanse between stuff in Space & on Earth. Have an FTL Starship with innards of the Titanic.
Then got a Interns to film & direct it.
Oh and make sure none of the characters have ever watched any SciFi so are the most naive idiots in space.
It is real real shame. Because taking out the formulaic shit, there was a good hook buried deep down in the mess that should have become a very good story over several seasons and the plot only got started in the last episode.
Cant see it being renewed but it filled some time waiting to start watching the cricket…
Close but Fail.

Spoiler alert!
But IF you’ve already watched it, time to nod your head when you remember you spotted it in the show and couldn’t quite say what it was.

On the final season of Orange is the New Black.
Now into issues around ICE and people being picked up and put in detention with no way of contacting anyone. Plus how to make it out on your own once released.

Edit: think this was my favourite season. Excellent acting by all and quite emotional in places. Some feel good bits.
Uzo Aduba was stunning as Suzanne.

Whitehouse & Mortimer ā€œGone Fishingā€ back for a second series.
Episode 1: An absolute dream of a programme, full of love , whimsy, breath taking photography, one pant-wetting throwaway line and a poignant ending :lou_lol:

Relying on Netflix so months behind you lot.
But how brilliantly is Line of Duty put together each season?
British TV at it’s finest.
