Shocking news in the Daily Mail recently said that he was gay or at least bi. Who would have thought it?

@tokyo-saint & @bearsy I was also at Reading fest in 2000! It was very muddy from what I remember.

New season of Rick and Morty has properly started now with the second episode yesterday (first episode of the new season dropped on April 1st) - absolutely brilliant show.

If you like animated shows for adults in the vein of Archer, Bojack Horseman and Venture Brothers then I’d highly recommend - it’s like if Doc Brown was a resoundingly sociopathic massive alcoholic in Back to the Future…

Don’t forget its Community roots, especially the ā€œanything can happenā€ mechanic, and the zeal in which they implement it.

I’ve just finished Ozark, which would certainly qualify as a good show. Not sure if it’s a great show yet. It stars Jason Bateman, who is pretty decent as a money launderer on the run, and has been billed of a mix of different things, including Breaking Bad.

Bateman’s character finds out his partner has been skimming off the mob funds. After pretty much all of his business associates are murdered in front of him, he manages to convince the boss that he can continue to launder for him, specifically in the lake resort community of Ozark.

It’s a complete hail mary. He knows nothing about the place, save what his former partner told him and the contents of a leaflet.

It’s quite interesting in that fairly early on, the whole family knows what the family business is. I’ll check out the second season, the first was good enough, especially as an establisher. Doesn’t quite get into my superb category of TV yet. Bit too Binge Netflix, imo. It’s good enough to keep you clicking Next Episode.

Dunno if I would keep up with it presented any other way.

I’ve never seen Rick and Morty :astonished: Am I missing out?

got 1 ep of Ozark left.

I agree, it’s been good, certainly enjoyable. But probably not great. Perhaps it suffers from the, somewhat inevitable, Breaking Bad comparisons.

In its defence, the first couple of series of Breaking Bad weren’t exactly great, of course it went on to become great later on.

Also, Laura Linneys character is infinitely better than Skylar - which, at first, seemed to be the role she was playing.

Find the relationship between Marty & Ruth fascinating. Actually, I’m constantly intrigued by Marty. I’m unsure how much that is the character, and how much it is just getting used to seeing Jason Bateman in this sort of role (I do think he does a stellar job, fwiw).

Ruth is definitely one of the more interesting characters in that show. Her introduction doesn’t feel forced, neither does her integration into Marty’s family. She’s got it all going on. Very tough. Very vulnerable. I’m hoping she stays the course.

Oh, and I’d disagree on Breaking Bad, KRG. It truly was great first to last. The fact that they raised the game in the later seasons shouldn’t be seen as a black mark on the first two. Where I think the difference is between Breaking Bad and Ozark is the bravery of what they attempted first time.

Breaking Bad opens with Walt next to a broken down meth van, with no trousers, sirens in the distance and confessing to his wife on an answerphone. Pretty ballsy.

So the second series of Naked Attraction has just finished. Still as bizarre and still car crash TV. The premise that by getting the curiosity about seeing each other naked out of the way early, that people can then concentrate on the personal interaction more, is nonsense. Most of the couples dont find a relationship on this show as is evident by the post meeting interviews. It is just an excuse to show willies, bums, tits and vag.

I have seen every episode. :lou_sunglasses:

Upvote for The Ozarks, it’s not original but really great performances, Jason Bateman is really good, Laura Linney is just a great actress. The comparison to Breaking Bad is wrong though. If we’re being really reductive, Ozarks is the old ā€œfish out of waterā€ narrative. Breaking Bad is a bit more of a messy morality play.

Rick & Morty shares a distinction with Game of Thrones, at least in my eyes. It gets watched at least twice, because it’s fucking awesome and you simply can’t catch all the goodness on one viewing. Season three is airing on Netflix at the moment, a little delayed, but only by a week.

If I had a criticism, you’ll only really get the most out of it if you’ve seen a lot of films. Many of the episodes are complete spoofs of existing properties, such as Inception or Mad Max. Given the love for the arts on this site, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem for your average Sotonian.

That said, this isn’t the Family Guy later seasons take on cultural references. Like Community, which the show shares a writer with, the show revels in these references and pays them an episode’s respect, unlike FG which just uses them to pad time. As an aside, first three seasons of Family Guy are excellent. It was a shame to see that show go downhill.

Season three has been superb so far. The first episode deals with Rick’s problem with the Council of Ricks, and mopping up the excellent cliff-hanger from season two, where Earth had been taken over by aliens (Rick’s fault), culminating in Jerry, Rick’s long suffering son in law, being turfed out of the family home, a situation Rick has entirely engineered.

Episode two shows the kids dealing with their weird domestic situation by visiting a Mad Max-esque post-apocalyptic dimension. Morty has a mutant arm with muscle memory that has its own agenda.

In the latest episode, Rick transforms himself into Pickle Rick to get out of family counselling. I suspect Pickle Rick will quickly become a thing or meme or some such. This is where it’s from.

Excellent show. Dark, funny and hugely creative.

Watched the first episode of Ozarks and will probably watch the rest. Had to explain most of plot to my partner.

Tried Billions and won’t be bothering with that any further. Also started Boardwalk Empire. Not a massive fan of it when on paper it looks like I would have been.

Broadwalk Empire is worth staying with Niki. It is definately a grower. Mrs Sog gave up with Billions but I stuck with it and that improves with time too. The end of the last season was excellent. I struggle with the Bobby Axlerod character though.

Just finished the first series of Top of the Lake in 2 days. Throughly enjoyed it.

Boardwalk Empire is really worth sticking with. The first 2 seasons do move a bit slowly, the detail and performances. Its a mixture of real life and real characters who are combined into plot character’s.

Saying that, Terence Winter rushed the ending to make the god awful ā€œVinylā€ for HBO.

ā€œThe Leftoversā€ is just one of the best and unique things i’ve watched. Unfortunately the viewing figures didn’t make a profit so

Ray Donovan on Amazon is really good IMO, if only to see John Voight

Watched the last one last night. Still a bit confused as they made a huge leap for the last series by taking it to Oz, but well worth watching.

Whole cast is just perfect… series 4 is just a killer… Seroies 5 starts tonight on Sky Atlantic
