Twin Peaks is just something else. Completely surreal.

Did you watch the original? Brilliant & great sound track

It is getting weirder by the episode. Especially now that they have decamped to Australia. It makes Lost look relatively straightforward. Into the final straight now so looking forward to seeing how it ends.

Ripper Street ended this week. It has been superb but the final episode concluded very early then just sort of petered out. Still, all loose ends we tied apart from the main one which, as we know, remains untied!

Oh yes. I remember watching as a teenager in 1991. My paternal grandfather ended up watching it with us one time and said it was ā€˜gratuitous violence’ which looking back it really wasn’t. Just hearing the theme music brings back being that age waiting for the next episode. I was quite a fan (I still have 2 books - Laura Palmer’s Diary and Agent Coopers) and have the old series on DVD.

Yeah, the music was something else.

Was by Angelo Badalmanetti (or something like that). Bought the cassette for the now Mrs C_S in the early days…

Brings back happy memories of her grotty student bedsit in Norfolk Square in Brighton back in the day.

Lou we need a penis head icon with a little tear of regret…for old times. Or not legging it while I still had a chance

Been watching In the Dark on BBC. It has MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street) as lead. She’s a police officer. Seems to be 4 episodes but 2 stories. 1st 2 episodes are a crime in her childhood town. The 2nd 2 are about her partner’s death when a gang kiling goes wrong. I’ve enjoyed it.

Excuse me, this is Sotonians, damn it. Do you dare to use _shop shorthand _in these gilded literary halls? :lou_wink:

Yes.

Some continuing love for Preacher. The first season is a lot of fun, but perhaps suffered from having too many characters, especially as an establishing season. Don’t get me wrong. I very much enjoyed it, and it concludes fantastically, setting us up for a pared down season two.

Less is more. Narrowing the scope of the show has not been limiting. It’s allowed a deeper dive into the key characters, and some hugely interesting trips off the beaten path. Hell is a location this year. It’s beautifully realised, a totalitarian bureaucracy that gives off shades of Brazil. Adolf Hitler is a noted resident.

Very stylish, and has got a very nice theme tune. Dennis Waterman, take note.

We watched a good show last night about Robert Mapplethorpe. An amazing artist but the subject matter was not for the faint hearted. Also I can’t believe how well hung the gay guys were in NYC in the 80s. It left me feeling somewhat inadequate.

The new Twin Peaks is just incredible.

They wrote it over 3 years, Mark Frost and Lynch. As an 18 hour script, not episodic, just one script. Fire Walk with Me was an annotated edit of Twin Peaks, the new series is just amazing.

Sad to say I don’t yet have photoshop on my new Mac, so no more penis heads for the foreseable future. :lou_sad:

I’ve been watching the Top Of Lake China Bird on the iplayers. It’s quite gd. The main character is the only one interest in Solving Murders, everyone else is just interested in their Sex Lives. Other coppers keep calling her in to business meetings to discuss important clues & developments, and then just going, ā€œSo… are you seeing anyone at the moment?ā€ It’s making me laugh. It’s just like my work.

I like this too! I like her facial reactions (or non reactions) when she has to put up with a constant stream of piss from dumb men.

Sounds like Daphne and Celeste at the Reading Festival.
