šŸ“ŗ GOOD SHOWS (no capeshit pls)

Loved it. Wonderfully acted and some great observational humour both subtle and bitter sweet.

I’m quite enjoying Season 1 at the moment…up to episode 8. Female lead…Juliana :lou_wink_2:

Think we are now half way through season 2. My partner is enjoying it but I am not that interested. Maybe if I liked women I’d be more interested in that Juliana.

The Affair Season 3 has just finished. It seems to have lost its way quite a lot. In the first two seasons the use of different POVs in each show was an interesting feature but that device hasnt worked so well in the third series. They seem to make the mistake that many shows do and extend beyond the point that the characters and plots remain believable. Apparently there is to be a another season. I am not sure if there is any point.

Uncle on BBC Iplayer. Has comedian Nick Helm in it. I really enjoyed it. Just 3 series.

I know what you mean ā€˜niki … I’m also half way thru’ season 2 and whilst I’m enjoying it, I can’t really say It has me hooked.

I’d normally watch a ten part tv series in 3 or 4 power sessions but with High Castle 2, progress is much slower. There’s never the feeling that a big reveal is just around the corner and subsequently, it does tend to plod a bit

Second Series is in 4k…but TBH it’s not something you notice…up to Episode 8 at the moment…I watch one a day. My wife fell by the wayside during the first series but I’m hanging in there. It’s OK…I’ve invested too much time to give up now. :lou_wink_2:

That’s the thing @lifeintheslowlane . When you get this far through, you’re in it for the long run … probably another couple of series before it all becomes clear.

Despite my comments in the last post, I’m still quite liking it tho’, it’s a great concept and pretty intriuging. Unless they completely overcook it ie. Lost, I’m there until I get some answers !!

Black Sails is back on again. A prequel to Treasure Island but with lots of sex and violence. Worth a look if you like a bit of pirate action.

We got to EP 4 of High Castle S1 and then subscribed to Netflix…

Tbh haven’t been back to Amazon Prime Video since even for Grand Tour. Castle was intriguing but it simply wilted from our bandwith in the face of really good stuff ā€œon the other channelā€

We just went straight to Star Trek TNG S1 and started to ā€œbinge watchā€

While it had some duds and annoyingly '80’s character types and we do ROFL at some of the Hair Styles and outfits, it does just go to show what a damned fine actor Patrick Stewart, he holds that show together so well and some of the stories fit so much more into 45 minutes than ANY of the Movies have done.

It is also interesting how much of an impact Netflix is now having - you guys were well ahead of us obviously, but considering the Entertainment Channels cost $210 per month and then we need to pay another $55 per month for Football 6 Nations & F1, a LOT of people are simply cancelling.

It poses interesting dilemnas - we all want this sort of binge watch, and don’t want to pay big bucks, but pretty soon the impact on Legacy Satellite Providers will be felt. THAT will impact a lot of things - money for production, but also Sports.

Rejoice in having Kodi. But you will kill Football when the likes of us cannot earn equal TV fees with the big clubs.

Thought Provoking

I gave up half way through second series. My partner kept on and tells me I should watch it. I may do if I don’t have anything more interesting to watch.

Yeah, but Rupert Murdoch might end up living underneath a motorway bridge, wearing a cardboard sign, bearing the legend ā€œwill wank for foodā€.

Watched the first three episodes of The Expanse. The first series was excellent, so I’m pleased to say on this evidence, we’ve more to look forward to.

The last season of Girls started last night. Lena Durnham has lost none of her willingness to show less than perfect naked bodies as much as possible and the writing is its usual 6th form fnrrr fnrrr standard, It was slagged off as a poor man’s Sex In The City when it first aired but it is much more than that air-brushed version of life in modern day America. It is a warts an all portrayal of sex and relationships and for me works better than SITC. Apart from launching the career of Adam Driver we also had a guest appearance from The Night Of’s Riz Ahmed last night. An aquired taste I would imagine, but it makes us laugh.

Couldn’t get through the first series.

Roots on BBC. There is an old version of it I vaguely remember as a kid. I went to Gambia where the main character is taken from and enslaved. I read Roots whilst out there and visited the small island the slaves were kept in before their journey to America. They couldn’t swim so no escape. There is also a museum where there a books and books of the people kidnapped and sold.

Anyway the series is pretty good. Not sure it’s quite a representation of the book but worth a watch.

I’ve always modeled myself on chicken George.

I’ve got whiskey and Bruce Springsteen on bbc4. A documentary and then a concert. Definitely worth watching, brilliant.

although as much as I love Bruce, hungry heart is a pretty shit song.

Finished Season 2 now and must say it really picked up the pace and the last couple of episodes had me on the edge of my seat … can’t wait for the next series now !!!

It’s a Nazi business.

Arf. Good German joke, ja?
