đŸ“ș GOOD SHOWS (no capeshit pls)

What we did on our holiday - BBC2 tonight. Excellent show with a lovely performance by Billy Connolly.

update - oops, it was a film apparently, not a show

You lucky man  I would just love to watch it with fresh eyes. Not literally fresh eyes :astonished: I’ve been bingewatching Ray Donovan on Amazon Prime. It’s well made but a bit Soprano’s lite. Worth it just for Jon Voight’s performance and Eddie Marsen

Still not connected to TV & Internet.

So been digging through a decades worth of old dodgy dvd’s

And found Star Trek TOS.

Mrs D_P’s 1st ever sight of them. She loves them. I’m sitting here thinking wow they were about the stories not the effects!

So worth re-watching

OMG.

I blinked. (Well, went on a #europeantour)

And we can now subscribe to Amazon Prime down here. Have the 7 day trial at moment. Grand Tour High Castle - no sign of Lucifer S2 so maybe regional rights issues.

$2.99 pm for 6 months then up to $5.99 slight difference from $220 pm for OSN

Is that just Amazon Prime Video? Prime costs ÂŁ70 a year here!!!

Check out Ray Donovan, the first 4 seasons are free then they try and coax you into buying episodes. You can wait a few months or just Torrent them  It’s well worth watching.

  1. We don’t have an actual Amazon here - e-commerce is a long way behind “The West”

  2. It SEEMS to be a “Lite” version they call Amazon Prime but there are only about 4 shows and some old movies on it. Not sure if that is because some of those shows you mention had their rights sold differently OR possibly they were deemed culturally incorrect for this region by Amazon. We have Red Oaks, Mozart in the Jungle, Man in High Castle, The Great Ape & Cronies (love how they are even more stupid & scripted now they’re away from the Beeb ) Transparent, Just add Magic, Bosch, Hand of God, Some are of course S2 so bloody useless to us to watch and that is IT (plus some kids shows)

  3. Netflix is also now here but again seems limited in scope. Think both are the start of the road to globalisation in TV where we end up paying to watch any show

It will, be another 5 days before the free trial ends then will see what comes up when it goes live. At the moment at least we have something to watch even if it is only the Great Ape & his cronies having knife fights on Hijacked Airliners.

Will let you know - as for real price - full rate here would be US $72 per year (we get it for $54 in this early sign up deal in year one. Obviously depends if it has real content

Taboo - latest Tom Hardy vehicle looks promising.

Fargo Season 2 - fucking great

Agreed. Watched first one tonight and really enjoyed it.

I’m sorry, it’s time to comment on the hairless Ape & his team’s new show.

Up as far as Finland so far and the Robot Bob Geldof giving James May a Blow Job for Christmas.

Clearly the “Don’t Offend Anyone” shackles of Auntie Beeb have been chucked in the bin & the Ape manages to open every show with a really "offensive’ line.

Their big budget has taken their level of (scripted) stupidity, banality and pointlessness to even higher levels.

yes they have mentioned some stuff about Cars - in fact the Le Mans Ford v Ferrari story was interesting and entertaining, it’s also amusing to see that so far James has got to drive all of the “fastest” cars.

No doubt the whingeing Pom attitude (where you’re all like my Mum) kicks in and everyone says they can’t stand him (read Clarkson/Murray and others). There are many moments that really do not work - the assisted Death discussion really was insensitive at the very least and tbh embarrassing.

But, the whole point is that it is bloody stupid. Not Monty Python stupid but it really does get Mrs D_P snorking every show and does put a smirk on my face.

Battleships - bloody bonkers. Morrocco & “killing animals” wrong wrong wrong. Killing a Celeb every week - childish.

But we find ourselves saying “Does that mean he/she’s not coming on”

You lot aren’t paying for it anymore, the Beeb aren’t getting money from the sales any more so I guess they can do what the hell they like.

And How hard can it be to actually like the show BECAUSE it is stupid and scripted. If I want reality or depression I can watch XFactor or Eastenders, but in a world where every day is a fight the escapism of an hour of “comedy” where the actual POINT of a show is to see people cock things up. yeah I like that.

Kimi Raikonen drinking himself to death? Wrong wrong wrong but damn it, it was funny.

Hammond’s respectful drive - by of the Cenotaph? Point scoring of the highest order.

Grand Tour is not there yet, but it is damned good fun. It’s a guilty pleasure you’d get scorned for enjoying back in the UK

And anyway, Clarkson is a boorish offensive oaf. FFS that is the whole DNA of Britain. Without that you’d all be indistinguishable from Germans or (God forbid) Belgians.

The Royal family are indistinguishable from Germans

Which is a bad taste gag in Episode 2 of Grand Tour

To be honest. Grand Tour Ep 7 and 8 - Namibia.

Yes it’s scripted but what a road trip special.

Epic tv

Thanks for the tip about The Man in the High Castle.

On Ep2 S1 now already loving the feel and depth to it as well as the sets.

As we’d got up to date on Clarkson this was next on the binge watch list. I know Content is the key to Internet success these days but this isn’t space filler it’s bloody good TV

Only S1 available here atm though

Onto series 2 of the Man in the High Castle. I am now struggling with it. Am I meant to like any of the characters? I know which ones I really shouldn’t like but find Frank just annoying and the female protagonist. Well I cannot even remember her name. They seem to be able to avoid highly militarised areas with ease.

Probably been posted already buy Scorsese’s ‘Vinyl’ utterly superb. But not one for the the children!

Apple Tree Yard - a 4 part series which aired on BBC1 last night is worth a look.

Think this has already been mentioned but gets my vote again.

Detectorists - can be found on Netflix now, originally on BBC 4. Beautifully shot outside scenery and lovely characters wonderfully acted.
