Thatâs my major issue with it, really. Shame, because the comic book inspiration (Sandman, geek newbs) had dominion over hell and a shitload of very interesting, often pustulous demons. That would probably have been something of an ask on a TV budget.
They should just make Sandman. Wouldnât have thought an adaptation possible back when I was reading it, but TV is easily mental enough to accommodate it today.
No idea whatâs going on is it Vampires Aliens or what but shows promise.
And Pap? The longer you watch Lucifer the deeper it gets. The whole Dominion thing is comingoing as we reach finale & the Demons have a good part in it And she is steaming hot.
Stranger Things is good. Very watchable. Nailed first 4 episodes in one sitting. Even the missus likes it which means I get brownie points in a roundabout way.
Been watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on Netflix with the gf.
Itâs pretty entertaining. Some really funny parts in there, and some of the songs are pretty funny too. Seems to be the baby of Lead, who also directs, writes and is co-creator of the show. Has won some a fair few nominations/awards and looks to be coming back for a second season.
It is not a Cop Show. Yes it has the Cop angle (or vehicle) as its core and as I never read the Sandman DC stuff then I get that. In fact you could equally say that the story line is built around the impact of one soul who is brought back from Hell and how that messes with the entire Dominion, but that doesnât become clear until much later. It is an adaptation of the DC comic, not THE DC comic. The Cop Show angle is disconcerting, BUT when you step back after a gfew episodes with the developed characters, it is SO bloody obvious WHY they went that route and in the context of the story they use for the show it does work. A great deal of the story is built on explaining the misconception of the Devil (the Devil Made me do it) whereas in fact that is not his job Satan Judges then punishes, so putting him in an environment where he is actually doing his normal job while on vacation makes sense and in our eyes works
The show is about the learning curve and the âsexualâ or âotherâ chemistry between the characters. From that come the jokes. None would be funny if retold or You Tubed but with the context they show very good quality writing and while Tom Ellis occassionally struggles to show Gravitas with his affected accent routine in most cases it does work
Around the core stories, the characters develop in such a way that even a raised eyebrow causes a smile or even a snork
The penultimate episode where Lucifer investigates a Satanic cult may not be âin a DC comicâ but the sheer ludicrousness of the concert is brilliantly exploited for its comedic opportunities
Tom Ellis - has introduced a few classic catch phrases - âTell me what do you desire mostâ and âthe Lookâ have to become a Nightclub classic. A lightweight Tom Hiddlestone - quite a bit of the Loki in his voice and mannerisms without the Psychopath element. I do think he shows great promise, and jeez do the women (Mrs D_Pâs pals) just LOVE him.
My favourite and topical one this week, sitting at the Psychiatrist and introducing his Brother. Who is Black. On its own not funny, in the context of the whole Shrink to Devil stuff that has gone on before, hilarious
Then there is the season finale. Weâve all watched stunning cliffhangers and immense visual epics to keep us on our toes (eg GoT).
The Finale does kind of limp along pulling the Cop Story & the lost soul together but then that limping builds up to the very very VERY last word in the show. And KABOOM.
No action no drama, no spoilers, just one word in context and suddenly you go WTF? and we get a âOhâ moment that actually fried our brains in trying to compute it.
Preacher
Apparently Preacher gets better and better, but I still have no idea what it is about. But ANY TV Show that has CNN on in the background showing a headline TOM CRUISE SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODES AT SCIENTOLOGY EVENT has to be worth sticking with
Iâm rewatching Fargo from the beginning. Everyone should, really. Like the Coen brothers film it draws its inspiration from, it benefits from repeated viewings. This is my second time through. Itâs really not a chore watching Lorne Malvo conduct his malevolent hunting campaign on the rest of humanity.
Martin Freeman is also excellent as Lester Nyegaard. I guess you could say heâs the showâs version of William H Macyâs character from the film, although they are completely different people and have different arcs. Both are under suspicion from the authorities (or someone), both are in it up to their necks, but there the similarities largely end. The huge difference is the corrupting influence of Lorne Malvo.
The film thugs saw Macyâs character as a complete joke, whereas Lorne takes Lester under his wing in this adaptation. Malvo pretty much self-describes as a wolf picking off the weak. One of the best things about the series is watching those wolf-like qualities emerge in Lester.
Bastard. I just watched it assuming you were joking and thatâs EXACTLY what fucking happened. E fucking T wearing a thee piece suit and a cap just looked ridiculous.
Nope still no idea what is going on other than it seems to be bloody good.
What I think I have worked out so far. Bonnie & Clyde where Clyde goes straight & becomes a lousy Vicar.
Then an Irish Vampire jumps out of a plane with an Umbrella after a punch up following a game of Roulette with some suits at 40,000 feet.
Then an Alien force blows up some other random Vicars and Tom Cruise before entering Clyde.
Some weird Saffers try to kill Clyde but get chain sawed by the Vampire.
Then there is a Cowboy in 1881.
Yep add in a kiddie fiddler, property developers a whore house, a Milf and a wonky air conditioning unit. (Oh and some trailer park trash wife who loves heavy/extreme BDSM)
Makes Lost or Twin Peaks seem simplistic in comparison.
Got a feeling 1) it might become the best thing since Walking Dead 2) it might become weird capeshit.
