Always been a massive fan of the Tomb Raider franchise. Completed most of the games in the series.
Theyve definitely got better the last few years, probably no coincidence that improvement happened around the time Rhianna Pratchet came on board. Unsurprising, writing is in her blood.
Darn the xbone exclusive. I want it now. *insert unsmiley face, which is fucking impossible on a phone*
It still manages to distinguish itself despite nicking a lot of ideas from other games. It is yet another third person game that apes Arkhamās detective mode. The actual climbing about isnāt that much different from most other games of its ilk, but the icepick mechanic is back.
Itās more linear than Far Cry and arguably the new Metal Gear, but youāre doing the same things. Harvesting, crafting - pilfered from MMOs, which pilfered levelling up from RPGs (along with every other genre).
Games are becoming eerily similar, so itās nice when one stands out a bit.
The last bit, particularly AAA, is v true. Oh look, an open world for me to spend hours traversing with a truckload of busy work to pad out the game with more content.
to be totally honest, more linear suits me.
I dunno, I get told Iām not a āgamerā. I just get bored of slightly reskinned versions of the same game (yes, I know the part of the industry I work in isnāt massively better - doesnāt mean Iām not frustrated at that either).
They have such potential as a medium, yet it seems to always revert back to white dudes running arose be shooting shit, itās dull. Iām more often than not drawn to the weirder, quirkier stuff I guess.
Anyway, Iām on an odd tangent. Good to hear more positive stuff about Tomb Raider, the long wait continues.
Anyway, another game I have been playing a little bit recently is Nihilumbra. On the surface, itās a 2D Platformer. But what makes this one a bit more interesting is the ācolourā collecting. Different colours (effectively abilities) that allow you to affect the world to help you solve puzzles and progress. Simple idea, but effective.
One thing I will say though, itās relentlessly fucking miserable. Itās really saying something when I say that as well. But for a 5er, Iād say itās worth a go.
I see my dad at the weekend. Heās logged 400 hours playing windows solitaire bc heās ātrying to do it in less than 100 movesā. I was like, u sad bastard, but Iām secretly playing it at work now bc i want to beat him to the prize. If I do, Iām gonna send him a screenshot saying āFirst Try!ā
Been playing Nuclear Throne, a low-fi bullet hell rogue-like. Pixel graphics, very challenging but a lot of fun. If you enjoy the rush of a decent twin stick shooter, youāll like this.
Another really rather pretty game, that looks quite interesting. God my wallet is taking a pouding at the minute. Probs add it to my ever growing backlogue, hoping that I can grab it in a sale. Will definitely play it sometime soon though
Iāve been rather busy this week so gaming, when it has happened, has occurred with dippers, games you can dip into without a whole load of commitment.
I am still encouraging anyone with an Origin account to get NFS Most Wanted while it is free. Burnout Paradise with the added complication of cops, basically. Iāve spent some time obsessing over a Lamborghini Gallardo and getting it upgraded.
Nuclear Throne remains on rotation; the Binding of Isaac has joined it. Also spent some time last week playing Worms Battleground with my brothers. Very decent worms game introducing some new dynamics, such as worm classes. Your fat worm is shit on a jetpack but causes a big explosion when he goes and doesnāt suffer much knockback. Your thin worm wonāt set off mines, but can get knocked for six. Still family champ by some distance
