So after finally picking up MGSV 2 months ago, Iām about 200 hours in and almost at 100% completion (97%). Donāt think Iāve been this balls deep into a game since Skyrim. Love the single player gameplay but Iāve avoided the online player v player mode as it just seems to promote people being dicks to each other. The attention to detail and variation in how you can play the game is bloody impressive, and the additional mission tasks make for great replay value and force you to change your style of play. Easily the best value for money game I have owned.
I loved the game but admit I stopped playing once you were forced to replay old missions to unlock more story. I game a lot but not enough to replay content on games like that. Still got my moneyās worth tho.
No Manās Sky turned up while I was on holiday and while I still want to play it, Iām thinking I might return it and pick it up again when more patches have been released. I might use the refund to buy the new Deus Ex game.
Oh and if you want a game thatās value for money, look no further than Witcher 3. That game is immense.
Yeah Witcher 3 had me by the balls, put about 70-80 hours into it and Iām willing to bet half of that was playing Gwent.
Iām really keen to have a go on No Manās Sky. Think it looks great, folk in the office that have played seemed to be really enjoying it. But yeah I agree with Mullet. I, as a rule, donāt buy games until they have been out a little while and actually resemble something like a finished product. The pre-order model is fucked, and is good for neither devs (ok, financially there probably are benefits) or customers.
Anyway, as I like to do (itās kind of my area, so I am biased) I want to share a cracking little mobile game Iāve really been enjoying.
Reigns. Itās a choose your own adventure game, in which you are a King and have to reign for as long as possible. Balancing the happiness and health of your subjects, keeping your army strong, your religious groups happy and not running out of money. Itās pretty simple, with choices in binary form - presented in a Tinder style swipe right/left style. If you die (which you will), you simply restart as your successor. My record reign is currently 49 years! Lotās of fun to be had for a couple of quid, Iād say. Thereās also a version for Android peasants.
Iāve been playing a few things. Fire Emblem continues to be the dirty man cave game of choice. It says Iāve played 34 hours, which as always, grossly underestimates things. I am still very much in the early stages of the game, and havenāt really dipped a toe in the water of the wider saga (there are now two more whole campaigns to come). I read a lot about the FE series during Awakening and am playing it āproperlyā. Taking people up to level 20 before moving them onto a new job. Trying to keep all my characters within touching distance through copious amounts of grinding. Itās all fun and games until someone teams up on your songstress prompting a restart. It is an excellent game though.
Iāve been playing Starbound on the PC, which is finally out of early access mode. Itās a 2D game in which you can harvest the environment, build new stuff - a lot like Terraria. The music is lovely stuff, although I havenāt progressed too far into the game yet. Iāve not quite gotten everything right either. Keep starving to death after a few days. First priority in the next world is to build a fucking hoe so my character can plant seeds and yāknow, live beyond the first week. I keep trying to convince the fam to play one of these with me. Theyāre having none of it.
I also picked up Shovel Knight, which is basically a homage to old NES games like Mega Man. A lot of fun. Hard in a way that not many games are. Well recommended.
Ah I totally missed Starbound coming out! Had been meaning to pick that up. Cheers for reminding us papster
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. The Vita version, which Iām playing, is rocking a 93 on Metacritic. I was initially suspicious of that score, because nostalgia tends to add a point or two on Metacritic. Album re-releases normally get fawned over, for example.
Were the reviewers reviewing the game, or a trip down Memory Lane? Would the mechanics of a PS2 game hold up in this day and age? Iād never played the original. This needed to be good in 2016.
It is lovely and confounds expectations. Itās a beat-em-up / RPG hybrid. I didnāt think Iād enjoy it because Iām not a massive fan of beat-em-ups. Tend to find the old ones a little repetitive, and the new 3D stuff like Bayonetta a little too taxing to be good at quickly, and I genuinely donāt have the time or inclination to learn.
This hits such a sweet spot between accessibility and hardcore. Loving it so far. The fact that itās such a looker certainly isnāt hurting.
MGSV complete! 100% and platinum trophy (my first one ever), which means I can start socialising again
Battlefield 1 beta.
Thereās a refund furore over No Manās Sky.
Peeps are not happy. This article is from the New Statesman, FFS

What do you think? Loved BF1942 and BF2 but havenāt played them in ages. BF1 looks good from what iāve seen
Played a fair bit over the last few days. Really like it, but as with all these multiplayer games, much better if you play with mates.

I wanted to pick up an RPG for the Vita so I had something to play while the kids are monopolising the PS4. I ended up getting Persona 4 Golden to see what all the fuss was about. Gotta say it has itās hooks in me, although I canāt help but feel a little weird playing a JRPG about high school kids when Iām 43!
Also been playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Took a while to hook me but really enjoying it. Finally started GTA V as well, which is fucking hilarious.
Finally a small tip for anyone that likes the Souls games. Thereās currently a beta for Neoh on PS4. Played the alpha a while back and itās pretty good. Tough and plays a bit like a souls game. The travel mechanic annoyed me (canāt travel to different shrine/zone (bonfire equivalent) until youāve beaten an area), but on the whole looking forwards to it.
Yeah loads of hate on the youtube about this, with a game that massive I think there was always going to be issues, mainly that it was overhyped, oversold (in terms of what it could do) and rushed through to meet a deadline. I personally donāt really care about the game as it stands, looks like alot of travelling around collecting resources and whatnot but to what end? Doesnāt seem like you can build settlements or engage in galactic scale warfare. Think Iāll save my cash for something else.
Previously Recorded, the gaming spin-off from the guys at RedLetterMedia, recommend it to one specific group of people.
People that get high all the time
Yeah, loved it actually. The leaked maps look pretty sweet too. Definitely going to buy.
Dan TDM update: for his birthday, littleāun has begged us to take him to the Dan TDM tour! Oh yes, this guy is touring the country, playing to vast crowds of pre-teen boys doing⦠Well, we have no real idea what he does in these live shows. Either way, Iām sure itās all very wholesome and nice and minecrafty.
Currently, Mrs Bathsaint and I are bickering over who has to take him and his brother to the show.
This week I have been mostly playing flick kick football legends on the iphone.
Really simple yet brilliantly engaging for anyone raised on Roy of the Rovers. It just makes me really happy
