One thing that always guts me is that the absolute best Bond theme, Duran Duranās A View To A Kill, is saddled with the movie A View To A Kill.
Well, not entirely. I think āYou Know My Nameā (Casino Royale) and āNobody Does It Betterā (The Spy Who Loved Me) are right up there too.
That gets a nod of approval
Been voted, numerous times, as the best Bond themeā¦
Which one and whenā¦time will endorse my selectionā¦my wisdom is not to be questioned.
How can you not include Shirley Bassey & Diamonds are Forever?

And Goldfinger. From the same era, From Russia With Love is a brilliant theme song, which Matt Monro delivers beautifully.
Other personal favourites are All Time High and Man With the Golden Gun. And I know it doesnāt really count, being a spoof, but Dusty singing The Look of Love always sets my spine tingling.
Finished the Reacher binge. They should do a version featuring a very fat bloke and call it Reacher Round.
We can start referring to the Tom Cruise movies as the āHard to Reacherā films too.
Got exactly what I expected - a nice slow paced small town mystery featuring many trained killers and deaths.
Munich: The edge of war.
Set in 1938, centres around Chamberlain - played brilliantly by Jeremy Irons - and Hitler. Two younger stars one on each side, the Brit played by George MacKay (from 1917).
Great tension and edge of seat stuff for much of it, despite the outcome being well known. Recommended
Didnāt realise Adolph was a thespian. Though he was more of a painterā¦
We gave it another shot tonight and Iām less underwhelmed than on first viewing, but not by much tbh. I still found it largely unconvincing, but was even more impressed by the terrific raft of back references, mainly to the original books but also musically. The presence of so many nods to earlier material leads me to suspect that the next Bond film will be a prequel, perhaps beginning with Madeleine recounting the story of James Bond to her daughter as per the closing dialogue. Revised opinion, 6/10.
Next Bond film will be another reboot. I think this is how theyāre going to roll from this point forward.
A Violent Man
Not my kind of film usually but Craig Fairbrass puts in a great performance in this prison drama, depressing and shot in a closed spaced its surprisingly good if bleak.
Matt Munro, what a voice.
So, been smashing through some films recently:
- Liquorice Pizza: Enjoyable coming of age film, quirky, different, but great lead performances (as was Bradley Cooperās nutcase cameo).
- Nightmare Alley: Dark. Deeply, deeply, dark. Amazing visuals, some gross out gore at the end, very Del Toro to be honest. Really good film, although wouldnāt say I particularly enjoyed it.
- Uncut Gems: Never got round to this first time. Frantic, loud, anxiety inducing. Sandler is terrific as a lead who is properly unlikeable, yet you still want to win. Very gripping for a film of 2 and a half hours.
I really enjoyed Death of Stalin, but still think The Big Short is the superior film.
The Big Short is genuinely must watch for anyone who wants to understand the fucked up state of the world, and why we are where we are now.
Surely not as breathtaking as Rise of the Foot soldier (which ever one), arguably putting Olivier to shame?
