The Lighthouse? The Color Out Of Space? Mandy?
Will check them out at some point. Thanks.
This man recommends āEarthlingsā. I havenāt seen it but it must be bloody good.
Hostage siege ends after Ukrainian president endorses Joaquin Phoenix film
My birdās away for the week, so last night I took the opportunity to watch a film Iāve never seen; Withnail and I.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, plus now I understand all the interminable quotes
And, as a non-drinker, you wouldnāt have been tempted to join in.
For one horrifying moment, I recognised myself 20 years ago
edit, McGann, not Grant
Not Monty then?
Buy me a drink and find out
Mrs Fatso is back! I brazenly suggested watching The Witch. It was shit. I have no idea how that film has got the reviews it did. There was nothing about that film that I liked.
Another bird-unfriendly film for me tonight that Iād never got round to watching before, 2001, A Space Odyssey. I honestly cannot imagine my other half sitting through it, but I loved it. The atmosphere, filming, score, all of it.
Bizarrely, when those tapir things were getting scoffed down by the apes at the beginning I couldnāt help thinking of the hippo/mother-in-law running gag in Reggie Perrin. Then blow me down if he doesnāt show up 30 minutes into the film
Precisely.
Another birdless night, so another previously unviewed bloke film in The Big Lebowski. An hour in and frankly Iām bored, is this worth sticking with?
Editā¦
Well, I stuck it out. Not bad film I suppose, but either Iām missing something or it really doesnāt live up to the hype. Decent cast, a few laughs, Julianne Moore looking hot, Jeff Bridges giving a perfect portrayal of Jeff Bridges, John Goodman making amends for Roseanneā¦but all a bit unsatisfying somehow.
As a matter of interest, why do you regard The Big Lebowski as a bloke film?
I donāt know. It always sounded like one whenever Iāve heard it discussed. And Iād have thought the cast list would heavily suggest it was more bloke fodder than bridget jones territory.
When I think of a blokey type film Iām thinking Predator not a Coen Brotherās film, which are generally slower paced and āgreat yarnsā. Itās one of my favourite films and I remember spitting out my drink when Lebowski goes all spy and uses a pencil rubbing technique on a notepad to find out what the crime boss was writing, only to find out heād drawn a cartoon of a guy with a massive cock
Massive cocks and rubbings are definitely bloke films
I watched āI see youā last night as part of my quest to watch horror films. My main issue with this film is that is didnāt be described as a horror. Itās a straight thriller with no horror in it. Itās a bit creepy in places bit itās not horror. Itās an ok film. Slow first half, improved second half not sure Iād recommended it to others 5/10
Lighthouse from 2016 or lighthouse from 2019?
Yes, thatās one of the laughs I referred to. I can pretty much guarantee that had my girlfriend been watching it with me she wouldnāt have found that scene either objectionable or amusing, but Iām certain that she wouldnāt have opted to watch the film anyway. In fact, it was on the pile of dvds weāve picked up that sheās not interested in, just as thereās a similar pile that she wants to watch but Iām not fussed about. Iāve been working through mine while sheās been in the Midlands visiting her daughter.
Itās hard to put a blanket generalisation on what constitutes a bloke/bird film. Funny you mention Predator, I watched that with my ex-wife primarily because she wanted to see it. It was ok, but I wouldnāt have bothered to sit through it all if she hadnāt.
Watched this last night, on your recommendation, to be honest itās very slow and quite boring. Totally nuts too. Went in a completely different direction from what I was expecting.
Youāre correct about the soundtrack, but I would suggest that the tone it was trying to convey was out of place at times.
