📽 Films I have seen

I’ve finally gotten around to watching The Dukes of Hazzard, which I am not ashamed to say I enjoyed a lot. As a big fan of car movies in general, especially those from the late 70s and early 80s, this was if you’ll pardon the pun, right up my street.

The original actors all refused cameos, because they hated the script. When Stifler and Johhny Knoxville are the leads, you can kind of see why. Daisy Dukes spends most of the film bending over things, which got a lot of flak in our hyper-sensitive age. This is a glorious throw-back that is self-referential enough about how pop culture has changed to get away with it. And the car chases are ace.

A more recent watch is Yesterday, a film about a musician waking up in a parallel universe where no-one’s ever heard of The Beatles. It is alright, but it is strangely enough, utterly predicable. It pretty much did everything I thought would happen in a film about a man in this situation. Also, far too much Ed Sheeran.

The opening scene in the remake Casino Royale takes the genre for me into a gritter far more realistic realm, as the Craig era progress’s it gets gradually more far fetched and cod shite.
Craig for me or the style of Casino Royale for me.

Made the error of seeing Yesterday in the cinema. Mentioned it above. Money and time wasted.

Another ridiculous film is The Festival.
Joe Thomas as lead essentially playing thr same character as the Inbetweeners. His best mate is played by Hammed Animashaun (excellent in a recent play I saw). Plus Hannh Toiton (Joe’s other half and also in Inbetweeners).
Silly festival story.
Something to fill the time on a rainy day on holiday.

No! I hate myself…
Just watched the 2017 Jumanji remake on Netflix and it wasn’t shit.
It wasn’t good, but it was enjoyable nonsense.
Haven’t seen Karen Gillan look that hot since Dr Who days either.
OK already. I enjoyed it.

As a band, they passed me by.
They peaked when I was into Nile Rodgers. Sure, I knew the name and a vague recollection of maybe 1 song.
But what a well done movie The Dirt is on Netflix, and what a classic cliched story it is.
Really enjoyed the film.
The band? Motley Crue

Spider-Man : Far From Home.

At the time of writing, it’s the last Spider-Man we’ll be seeing set in the MCU. There are contract disputes between corner shop merchants Sony and Disney. It’s something of a shame, as these movies are probably among the more faithful to what Spider-Man is.

Whether you’ll have much surprise at what transpires in this movie will hinge on whether you’re familiar with Mysterio and what he gets up to. If you know this already, there will be few spoilers you don’t see coming.

Despite the globetrotting, this repeats the feat of the previous film in that the movie seems small, grounded and personal. It is a Spider-Man film, so the usual focus on quips and comedy is there, with most stuff landing.

It is our first proper look at the post-Endgame universe and there is a lot of fun had from that. Those that got snapped out of existence all blipped back into reality five years after everyone else had moved on. This makes for some interesting dynamics, not least when Flash Thompson, absent five years, tries to use his legit driving licence to score booze as a 16 year old.

Great film, a little bitter-sweet considering where this Spidey goes now. The shame of it is that our version of Earth is a lot more corporate and shit than Earth 616.

Saw Joker tonight. Well woaw Joaquin Phoenix is superb. Cinematography is beautiful. Apparently some people say there’s lots of gratuitous violence but it’s no Tarantino.
The BFI summed it up well.

Another night out at the cinema to go to the European premiere of Judy and Punch, an Australian film. It was at the Embankment Garden Theatre (a pop up for the BFI).
It had a similar message as last nights film but with a happier ending! One of the leads Mia Wasikowska (the most recent Alice in Wonderland) was there along with the director Mirrah Foulkes (we missed the little bit of Red Carpet action before hand). We ducked out of the Q&A at the end. We really enjoyed the film.

Another film on Tuesday and then I may calm down with it all.

Watched El Camino this weekend, the standalone Breaking Bad film which focuses on Jesse Pinkman. It’s a fairly simple plot that involves Jesse Pinkman getting the hell out of Dodge, or in this case, Alberqueque.

Quite a bit of flashback, so appearances for many of the Breaking Bad cast, including Brian Cranston and Jonathan Banks.

Not sure if it would stand on its own, but as an epilogue to Breaking Bad proper, it works well.

Saw it trailed but assumed it was a series and not a film. I’ll add it to the watch list!

Watched Mother! the last two nights. It may have been mentioned further up the thread. I’d seen trailers and dismissed it a bit. Heard it mentioned on Films to be Buried with and so gave it a go seeing as it was on the telly. An interesting concept and could see the metaphors but may have helped having that info before hand.

What a good little film 6 Days is.
2017 but on Netflix.
Iranian Embassy Siege.
A good nudge of memory

“In order of disappearance” 2014. One of those films the BBC shows late at night that people might miss. Solid Norwegian movie (with subtitles) about a father getting revenge on the guys who killed his son. Good film, funny in parts, bloody in others with Stellan Skarsgard and Bruno Ganz (who played Hitler in Downfall).
PS ‘Joker’ was superb, but you’ve probably all seen it by now.
