šŸ“½ Films I have seen

We’ll meet again
Don’t know where
Don’t know when…

Went to see Doctor Sleep tonight, and considering my expectations were low going in I enjoyed it quite a bit. Ewan Mcgregor’s american accent is a million times better than it used to be, built some really good tension and didn’t rely on too many ā€˜jump scares’, made some good call backs to Kubrick’s film and used them in a way that was justified, and had a delicious villain in Rebecca Ferguson. It wasn’t perfect, there are a couple of issues where I was all ā€˜confused dog’ but then I just reminded myself it is based on a Stephen King novel and not just a direct sequel to The Shining and it was ok.

7/10

I’ve just seen that Rebecca Ferguson (I’m stalking her now) will be Lady Jessica in the new adaptation of Dune.

This pleases me.

Ummm Doctor Sleep was written by Stephen King (in 2013) as a sequel to the Shining :man_shrugging:

Maybe I wasn’t clear in my distinction. My point was it’s not just a sequel to the film, but a mish mash of sequel to the film and adaptation of the novel, which is why you get some weird Stephen King shit in the mix, rather than a pure sequel to Kubrick’s vision of the book. Any clearer? No? Didn’t think so :lou_sad:

We watched The Limehouse Golem yesterday. Victorian ā€˜who dunnit / jack the ripper style murders’ type film. I think my partner enjoyed it more than me. I thought some of the acting was a bit meh. I worked out ā€˜who dunnit’ too. He didn’t. But I am not allowed to say whilst watching. So from now on I will have to write it down and then say/ show that at the end.

We went to see this tonight. I’m intrigued what confused you.
My partner once again enjoyed this more than I did.
It is 2h30min! However I didn’t notice it so did keep me interested. Plus I’ll pretty much watch anything with Ewan McGregor in it.
Seems to be quite different to the book.
I read so many Stephen King books as a teen but stopped not long after Green Mile came out.
Have a few to catch up on.

Nothing confused me, there were just a couple of things I found a bit silly and made me tilt my head in a questioning way, as I do in most of Stephen King’s stuff.

Ah ok. Agreed there were some silly bits.

Finally watched ā€œI, Daniel Blakeā€. Not much to say.

Cosmos.
A what is that? Sci-Fi/ 1st contact movie
Budget of £50.
3 Geeks in a Volvo Estate in the woods with some computers.
Absolutely superb little film.
A few ā€œyou muppetsā€ tech flaws & some generic back story atop it being a 10/10 but I REALLY enjoyed it.

Mrs miracle 2.
Bloody brilliant.

Just watched ā€œYou were never really hereā€. Excellent acting from Joaquin Phoenix. Has an Epstien type plot really.

Netflix has a new Xmas movie just dropped.
In November.
It’s a cartoon.
No way we’re gonna watch that tonight - Klaus.

2 hours later.

Wow. Bloody hell.

  1. It will scare young kids SHITLESS.
  2. We BOTH PMSL’d at what were almost Roadrunner quality visual gags, let alone the actual humour in the script.
  3. BUT. And this is the big one.

It is a proper, old fashioned, hand drawn style cartoon, not some Toy Story tech.
Which makes it a real joy to watch. Proper old school, wonderfully crafted.

The tech has some limitations these days (who cares)
The plot had some gooey holes in it (but never went full Christmas)
It was a joy to watch, retro tech with modern gags aimed at all ages. After some beers parts of it will probably be hysterical.
Add to that it will terrify & enchant little 'uns.
No doubt it will pop up year after year now.
Marvellous bit of old fashioned nonsense.

Oh and an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, wasnt just me having a daft moment.
Grab some early Mulled Wine & some Mince Pies.
Enjoy

Believe the hype.
The Irishman.
Proper old fashioned story.
Might take 3 nights to watch it all but 1 hour in, gripped by the story, the acting, but maybe not the hair colouring.

11/10

Revised
A classic for the ages.
Watched in one sitting.
Superb cinema Oscar for someone. Maybe everyone

Red Sea Diving Resort is a cracking yarn, and based on teal events to boot.
A very good film said Mrs P_F and I agree even if I was annoyed trying to work out who the young Keanu Reeves lookalike star was
