:engerland:🏏 England Cricket 2020

197 all out, 6 wickets for Broad.

England lead by 172, let’s get the big guns out

Stokes and Buttler to open for me, I’d rather lose trying to win than to be boring and grind it out, rack up 200 as fast as possible and see what happens.

Root is proving himself to be a Boycott.

Has he blacked up and given his missus a shoeing?

No need whatsoever for such tactics. They were necessary in the previous match, but not in this one. England can bat the afternoon session and half of the evening one; starting with a lead of 172 an additional 150 will put them in a position from which they won’t lose. Then there’ll be an hour or so today plus all of Tuesday to bowl out the West Indies, assuming that tomorrow turns out to be the washout that is predicted.

England won’t be playing for anything other than a win here.

I like your optamisms

Other than chancing it on the weather, playing a standard XI when we should get runs as quickly as possible.
Australia, New Zealand and probably India would try to win as soon as, attritionalesque cricket is so English cricket in test, playing Sibley and Burns for game time is lovely but why not keep the throttle on?

I seriously doubt that any of those teams would be starting their second innings with a 50-over opening partnership in similar circumstances. They might, and quite likely would, in the circumstances England faced in the previous test. But then so did England.

If England are so dead set on attritional cricket, then why play as they did in the second test? They’re playing according to the match situation, exactly as they should do.

Why chance the weather?
Declare tonight and put them in as soon as possible, test cricket has changed massively, I can bet you now Smith/Williamson/Kohli would be sending them out to smash it and win as quickly and convincingly as possible, not grind a 200 over a lengthy period of time just in case.

England have always been dead set on attritional cricket, the weather and wickets play a part but not as much as the mindset.

Currently going at 2.2 an over, fuck me bring Boycott back.

Windies bowling with the new ball has been phenomenal, I’m not watching at the moment so can’t comment but I bet they’re bowling quite well.

We’re to declare on Wednesday week…

Very important in the long term that these two become settled. Have now worn down the Windies and have the firepower to take advantage.
We want to win. Equally with the new League system we simply cannot lose, so assuming a day will be lost and allowing a team 2 days to score 300 odd is not wise

Fuck me this is boring.
