:covid_19: 😷 🏥 Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ❓

Ffs.

Not just wrong and dangerous, but utterly tasteless. Tossers, including Corbyn’s brother.

Make them do “voluntary” work cleaning up medical waste in Covid wards without protection and see what they think

Headline says it all - but the Govt approach seems laughable. What to do? Dunno, I’m not a Covid expert, neither are the decision makers in the government.

This shit has not gone away.
My BFF in Dubai just got told his Dad has passed away with Covid, only fell ill last week, double jabbed.
Mrs P_F has a cousin in the East of Poland, double jabbed 30 something - just been told she is in ICU on a ventilator.

Covid booster booked. :grinning:

The public accounts committee are getting stuck in about the test and trace

And rightly so

They have criticised the fact that only 14% of lateral flows sent out have been registered

Not sure that is entirely test and trace fault

The Ayatollah has a dozen sat in our cupboard and that would also assume that people could be arsed to upload their lateral flow test 100% of the time

The process is a joke. You upload your result then it messages you back to tell you the result. It’s wide open to people putting in whatever result suits their own end. It would have been simple to have had to upload the results via the QR code taking out the hooman influence. Badly thought through. No wonder people (including me) gave up with it early days despite still doing LFT twice a week …

Mrs TB does test twice a week, and is increasingly fed up with getting text telling her the result when she logs it in. She does log test results on the Zoe app, so I can see her not bothering with the official one before long.

Having been out and about a few times, it’s clear that most people don’t give a fuck about mask wearing anymore. The old ones are my favourite. There’s a discernible “fuck this lark for a game of soldiers” look peering through the wrinkles.

Most idiotic use of a mask? It has to be the bloke I saw hooning it up the M40, no-one else in the car, fully masked. Twat.

Just booked our booster jabs for Lady Slowlane and I. Sunday’s the big day at Oakley Road.
FYI I checked and the vaccine IS vegan friendly.

Had my booster today. I had that one that no one can spell (beginning Pf……), which has now been renamed for some reason! Might it be because no one could spell the Pfirst one, but then no one can remember the second one!

Sits here snugly in the 6 month window.
Until 15th Nov when apparently I can just do a walk in.
I will.

I had a great time in Slovakia last Sunday. Mountain climbing. Good job too.
They’ve gone lockdown again. Hotels Restaurants Tourist sites all closed

Yeah they had a surge in infections…3 new ones last week after an influx or Polish tourists.

Came out after sitting down for 15 minutes.
Went out to the cat park, told Mrs TB that I was told to go home and sit quietly reading my book.
She said “liar”.

Had my 3rd Covid jab, first official one, on Saturday, Flu jab on Sunday.

Feel right as rain I do, no honest…

Mate went for 3rd jab.
Asked him how he felt.
He said it was weird - they jabbed me in the top of the leg, not the arm.
Weird - any side effects? I asked

Nope.
But me Pfiizer killing me…

So Pfizer’s new wonder antiviral drug ($700) works in the same way as the widely trashed Ivermectin (3 cents). What a surprise.

Where to start on this?

The activity reported for Ivermectin as a 3-CL inhibitor is at a concentration of 50 micromolar. This is not impressive activity. The Pfizer compound was not tested in this assay but it its reported elsewhere to have an activity of around 25 nanomolar (i.e. more than a thousand times more active) against 3-CL.
Remdesivir is not a 3-CL inhibitor, it works by a different mechanism. It is not a valid comparison to compare its activity against 3-CL with Ivermectin.
The docking studies are not worth much unless backed up by an X-ray crystal structure of the substrate docked with the binding site. The researchers may have got the mode of docking all wrong. I’m not a great fan of docking studies, I’ve seen too many that are not predicitve of activity.
There are some interesting activities reported for Ivermectin but crucial information is missing; namely what concentration of Ivermection has to be achieved for the activity to be physiologically significant? Ivermectin has been used extensively for a number of conditions but the dosage has to be tightly controlled because you have not got much ceiling before toxic effects become a problem.
