An interesting explanation for the governmentās volte-face on social distancing.
And that is my big issue with the current measures. Self isolate, slow the spread, ease the impact on the NHS but when we are all released surely it starts all over again?
I agree with your logic but just to underline how fucked we are with planning assumptions, we donāt know if COVID-19 āsurvivorsā have any form of short or long term immunity.
Who gives a shit.
I have Wodka
You could have trimmed your own response, by simply typing ātl/drā
Bastard, I am offshore and could be here some time. We have 1 bottle of Vodka on board for medical emergencies and that is locked in the OIMās safe to keep it away from me.
Not quite⦠it would be hoped itās like other viruses⦠as folks self isolate and others recover, number of new cases declines⦠eventually, folks are. I longer contagious and the virus is in effect gone⦠but yes if could come bac, maybe is a different form⦠hope would be that folks have developed an immunity or that a vaccine is developed before another shore outbreak
Indeed, no hysteria , no fear hyperbole, just simple adviceā¦

I think Lewis is a little frustrated by the governmentās lack of decisive action.
As was said above the government is creating the fear that together with their advice will keep people away from businesses (large and small) without any support for those parts of the economy.
We need a socialistic response to the problem. The state and not the market is going to make this bearable.
Indeed⦠I think when this all settles and we see which large businesses did get help from the Government/ Tax Payers, how many of those are Tory party donorsā¦
There is anti-competitive legislation in place to stop any such singling out. Hence BA already threatening any help for Virgin (for their own reasons of hatred)
Of course I appreciate that this forum is hardly known for its balanced, fair-minded, middle ground, opinions on anything political
I was merely offering an impartial commentā¦
I suspect the āhelpā will go to larger businesses though on the pretext that they employ 100s/1000s, value to economy blah blah⦠and as we know they do tend to donate to the more right wing of the spectrumā¦
Tomorrow I have a Social Distancing dilemma. I have two friends from up country who 10 days ago went off on a cruise to the Iberian Peninsula. Last week their cruise was cut short and they are returning tomorrow morning.
Their car is parked in our driveway and I took them to the cruise terminal at the start of their holiday saying, give me a call when you arrive and Iāll pick you up.
So do I tell them to get a taxi back to pick up their car or is it reasonable to assume their āshore leaveā in the danger zone was more than 5 days ago and if they were infected they would already be showing signs of the disease.
I know most would sayā¦Fuck 'em let them get a taxiā¦would I be socially irresponsible if I did pick them up?
Tell them to get a taxi.
One of THE most important reasons to flatten the curve is buying TIME for Medical Researchers to find weapons to help fight it.
Finding combinations of meds that work can reduce the time spent is hospitals.
Can give us evidence on self medication so we do less harm to ourselves if we get a mild dose.
It gives time for stuff like this.to start to lead researchers down the right paths
BBC News - Coronavirus: Australian scientists map how immune system fights virus
uhm⦠is there really any difference between them getting a taxi or you being the taxi?.. At least you can wipe it all down etc, and note the contact for any future trace needed etc⦠will a taxi do that? But wear a gas mask and NBC suit
Alternative is to go completely starkers and just get the mrs to hose you down (not a euphemism) when you get back
