:covid_19: 😷 šŸ„ Corona Virus the thread for all your fears ā“

Listening to Novara Media at the moment. Some very good points being made, not least the one about why China and South Korea managed to get on top of this problem so quickly is that unlike the UK and USA, they actually have state apparatus that can do shit.

Contrast with our government, asking the market nicely if it will make ventilators for them.

Very droll, I’m sure. Incidentally, another phrase used was:

When a scientist uses a phrase such as ā€œno credible evidenceā€ they’re essentially saying that suggestions to the contrary are a big old pile of bollocks. It’s just that a phrase such as ā€œa big old pile of bollocksā€ isn’t the type of language that scientists use. Well, not in scientific papers, anyway. God knows what they say in private.

And paying the private sector for a loan of their hospital beds.

Thank you for the inspiration. Not so droll, one would hope.

Eldest Son may have it.
He lives in Germany, co-worker tested positive.
Symptoms as expected BUT very mild. Sore throat, SLIGHT fever, occassional cough a slight ache. He had the normal Flu before Xmas. Reported it called hotlines…
No tests, just self isolate, call if get worse
He’s feeling fine today but being careful.

Right all the oldies need to be shot. All of my oldies seem completely unconcerned and intend going about their daily business. The Ayatollah has kicked their arse but they still seem oblivious.

May be we should do them a favour and go full covid on them

I had a look after we talked about this and can’t find any new possibilities being reported apart from the below linked(it’s a bit of a jump), which would fit with two problems. The financial meltdown which started well before this bug(derivatives running at 20x world GDP and the like, plus the well timed yankee shale destruction from Russia) and why America and number one lapdog are trying to pretend it isn’t happening.

That’s about all though… apart from the fact that American biological research bases keep closing before an outbreak of a new desease in the area(can’t remember where i read it, but there were quite a few times). They currently run around 33 outside the US and have a very special and expensive program called(only fucking Americans could come up with this) ā€œInsect Alliesā€.

They’re certainly capable of doing it to cover their arses, but i don’t see the ā€œwinā€ for them(trial run aside, but even then you’ve just shown your trump card).

You know how modern people follow ā€œstarsā€ and want to be like them?

Is Cummings paying him :joy:

I mentioned my mentor.
This is the reality already.

True story

Everyone gets that their individual risk of catching and dying from covid is pretty low. You might need some care, some hospital time, etc but statistically only about 300,000 weaker members of the herd will not recover.

Comparing where we are now to total deaths from for instance swine flu years after that problem burned out is like predicting the final score of a game that has had maybe one or two pitches thrown in the first inning. Nobody who knows the sport or has common sense would do it, especially since part of our response to HBN1 included an effective treatment…

Which does not exist.

This is why we are taking the actions we are.

Now some of you know I’ve been trying to stay alive for a while now, getting weekly infusions in NYC. I’ve been lucky to be eligible for this clinical trial and given that I am way past my statistical expiration date you think I couldn’t be happier.

Well today my oncologist had me on the phone and we have both been cognizant that the meds are not working as well as they were at the start and I definitely need another plan pronto.

He said the hospital is already out of meaningful supplies and all elective surgery has been indefinitely postponed. The surgery I had hoped to have in the next few weeks is ā€œsemi electiveā€ and at his discretion…but…

There’s always a but.

He said all clinical trials have been closed to new patients due to capacity and planning issues from covid. Meaning if I stop this one because it’s not working and go for some quick cutting then there is no visibility as to when where or if another one I may be eligible for may open up.

He also expressed great concern about me physically coming to NYC for the infusion but knows as well as I do that this experimental drug is not available at the corner CVS.

So he said " let’s move to every other week…"

And I said " you will double the dose then?"

And he said no the clinical trial is dose specific.

So he is balancing the ability of one of the top 10 hospitals in the world to serve me --someone just trying to stay alive-- with the wave of covid patients now building …some meaningful percentage of whom are young and will recover fine without ever knowing what they have done to me and my peeps when they decided to say fuck this quarantine hoax and go have a full on party. If these unexpected sets of circumstances do me in I will not be counted as a covid victim. Not will the car crash victim, OD victim, stroke victim etc who cannot get treated because the bed is taken by a young person who will eventually recover

If this is a hoax, I didn’t get the memo.
If you did get the memo, burn it. It’s a lie.

He is one of the fittest people I know, our battles about our (fallen heroes) Lance Armstrong & Tiger were epic. We were both lucky enough to meet and talk to those heroes.
Now? His trials were a source of hope for so many suffering from an incurable form of cancer. All that progress could be lost as they have to start from scratch.

Dire prediction sees shift in UK strategy

James Gallagher

Health and science correspondent, BBC News

The UK’s plan has shifted because the scientific modelling showed we were on course for a ā€œcatastrophic epidemicā€.

A strategy of just slowing the spread of the virus, but not trying to stop it, would have overwhelmed intensive care units.

The modelling by Imperial College London has been heavily informed by the experience in Italy and is influencing decisions at the heart of government.

Their calculations predicted 260,000 deaths in the UK.

Instead the plan is to drive down the number of cases to very low levels, which the models predict will limit deaths from coronavirus to the thousands or tens of thousands.

However, this approach comes with a major problem - there is no exit strategy.

Without the immunity that would build up if people were infected, then cases would soar as soon as measures are lifted.

The report said these could need to be in place until a vaccine is available, which could take up to 18 months.

We are in this for the long haul.

18 months - well my business would be fucked - I reckon we can survive 5 with zero income - longer if I start making some shitty decisions.

And this is the issue - do I start now and give myself longer or do I try to hang on as long as possible but risk going belly up.

Cunting covid can kiss my arse

Hang on. The Chinese data does seem to prove how to deal with it, but that does involve some rather drastic measures. Twilight(or is it sunset?) clauses on emergency legislation.

How much did the drunk and eugenics boy waste of our money on their bullshit data for you to be at this point?

Should have chucked Goat and misses a decent holiday to be told weeks ago.

The problem is that where the Chinese can say stay inside or we will shoot you. In the UK we get my dick head parents and twat arsed staff carrying on like fuck all is happening

The Chinese data shows how to contain the first wave.

With no herd immunity, and perhaps with no immunity to those that have recovered (we just don’t know), it will come back.

Again. No amount of hand washing will cleanse me of the horror of agreeing with this

Your parents and mine are thankfully the sane ones in their age groups(assuming they understand the percentages).
Living in fear, particular at their age is no life and self isolation to a lot of pensioners is surely no different from a death sentence.

Fair point, but living in fear of a possible re-emergence will get us where exactly, considering the ā€œjust in timeā€ world?

There seems to be no interest, let alone direction from above, apart from a bit of language control.
The word herd to describe people for example. Don’t know about anyone else but my first association with that word is bovine. Is that where eugenics boy is taking us?

They seem to be leading people to panic whilst at the same time generally underplaying the potential. Something either stinks or they’re thicker than even i thought.

My sister has effectively put my dad in isolation she will probably end up taking his car keys from him to stop him going shopping on his own.
