You missed the end of that sentence

Explain the logic and people might buy into it if it suits them.

The tier system is pretty straight forward - the issue is that people are unwilling to abide by it. It doesnt matter what system is introduced, what lockdowns are imposed, unless there is collective responsibility, then they will not be as effective as they should be.

They can do tests and get the results in a couple of hours. Surely it is not beyond the wit of the government, having received such tests, to allow people that have tested negative to travel.

I think this will be our foreseeable 2021 future.

I assume you mean travelling internally in the UK

yes they could, however that would put huge strain on the testing system if millions of people descend on testing centres on christmas eve so they can travel, probably to the detriment of testing genuine cases

With regards to international travel, I suspect that this will be implemented quickly - the travel bans have caught everyone on the hop. Our clients have people all over the place and are properly flapping

The testing system already has to cope with the demands of the country. If you’re okay with the idea for people rich enough to get the fuck out of the country I don’t see why it can’t be implemented internally, or why indeed, these levels of tests aren’t commonplace in all the places where the infection rate is climbing.

It’s quite amazing how often our Government is caught on the hop, taken by surprise or left with no choice.

Meh.
Nothing new getting suddenly marooned abroad around 21st December.
LGW & LHR got blitzed by snow my return flight to sandpit was cancelled.
Shit happens when you travel for work.

That is not in dispute - the issue is you are advocating that everyone who want to go somewhere else for xmas just trots off down to a local testing centre - the system could not cope that sudden one off spike in demand and nor should it.

As for international travel, this isnt just about the rich flying off to Davos - this includes the truck drivers who are currently parked up on the motorway, or people trying to get back to their country of residence eg seafarers who have just finished their rotations

Nobody could have predicted that people would want to travel home for christmas.

But testing millions of people in a few days window so they can is just impractical

I agree. If only we had a VAGUELY efficient test track and trace service in place. If only processes had been developed whilst we had a window. If only we had PREPARED. It’s easy to say it’s just not possible when you have wasted every opportunity to make it possible. That is how we fail.

Weekly statistics for NHS Test and Trace (England): 3 December to 9 December - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

This is worth a read

In the week to 9th Dec -

The trace teams were able to get in touch with 86% of those testing positive

86% is pretty decent - I think they ballsed up the implementation, but I think they are hammering out the problems - that said, there is every chance of it getting overwhelmed if this new variant kicks off

I fear that the new variant has already kicked off.
If thousands of people have flocked out of London, wtf have they gone.
Sadly, anyone knocking on my door looking for somewhere to kip this Christmas will be told (in no uncertain terms) that there is no room at the inn.

Apparently South Africa have their own super infectious mutant strain

My wife needed a test on Saturday - the soonest she could get one was Wednesday, 90 minutes away in Clacton - system can’t cope with the demand at the moment.

We got a private one instead, and that’s what’s going to have to happen going forward.

Agreed.

Shit Government + Selfish Public = Clusterfuck

They don’t have to trot off anywhere. You can do tests from home. They do take longer, but for most of the people that want to travel somewhere, a two day delay would be fine.

There are systems already in place. What the government has decided to do is say fuck all that, everyone stays home irrespective of risk. It’s fucking lazy and people with better information than they seem to be able to get hold of are going to make their own decisions.

Of course, it provides an excellent frothing at the mouth opportunity for any virtue signallers wanting to call others selfish cunts, and that’s a GOOD THING.

Normally you’d need an outbreak of rabies to get the same result.

and who processes these tests? The labs would not have the capacity to deal with a one off spike in demand to satisfy everyone’s desire to be somewhere else for a couple of days.

The British public cannot deal with nuance and complexities, which is why it needs to be blanket, unfortunately.

It’s not everybody though, is it?

Let’s face it, crusty old fuckers like us don’t care because we’re already where we need to be. It’s the people that aren’t that’ll move. Young people mostly, who’ve already put up with enough this year.

I must say, I find the implied faith some of you have in the government extraordinary. Such statements as have been made imply that folk believe everything the government is doing is correct, everything that it is saying is right.

If selfish cunts are the problem, that faith in the government must be as resolute as it is inexplicable.
